Won't Start, Plugs Dying?

Re: Won't Start, Plugs Dying?
I did a dealer search and called just about every honda shop for motorcycles, small engines and scooters in a 15 mile radius and no one carrys GN2. A couple scooter shops said it did not sell so they started carrying Amsoil instead. I put in an order of Amsoil earlier this week that included Interceptor oil so I guess I will just have to wait until I get that.

OIL TANGENT
Does anyone really think that quicksilver 2T oil, that says it is OK to run in aircooled applications, is causing DKAudio's no spark issue?
That plug does not looks fouled to me.
DK, Is that plug junk for sure? Will popping in a new plug make the problem go away?
I would check that the coil wire has a good ground, and make sure the frame is grounded to the engine block.

exactly Oil has nothing to do with this guys problem. Wrong temp plug, jetting/climate, Bad coil will burn up a plug, but this is not a case of bad oil. If he said that the guy cleaned and oiled the filter I would start by getting a new one from honda they come pre oiled ready to go. In my experience these scooter are very sensitive to air filters. Than I would double check both jets in the carb, for being perfectly clean.

Re: Won't Start, Plugs Dying?
Geez, I thought I was on the right track here.
The plug is a NGK BP6HS (the original plug was a BPR6HSA, the guy at the hardware store said the 'R' is only a resistor and required in Canada and helps with noise interferance, the 'A' I am not sure what that is).
The spark is really strong against the engine block but I'm sure the plug is bad because I will be holding it while being connected to the coil and there is no spark from the electrode.

than you have spark against the engine block what are you worried about? Try holding the plug in the same hand you are touching the engine with you should get a nice shock

Hmm 'A' at the end just says "special design". I don't think the plug type was my issue though.Bear45-70 wrote:The following will tell you what all the numbers and letters mean.

You DUMBASS you will NEVER get a spark if the spark plug is not grounded to something. i dont mean the coil i mean the spark plug yourself. you plug looks and IS fine.

When You rode it for 10 miles "and then it wouldn't start anymore" Did it die, or just not restart after turning it off?DKAudio wrote:I just bought a 1985 Aero 50. I rode it for about 10 miles and then it wouldn't start anymore. I checked for spark against the block and it was good. I took out the spark plug and saw that there was no spark so I replaced the plug. I have only riden the scooter twice since that (put on maybe 10 miles) and the new plug is bad! The tip looks whitish/brownish, kind of fouled already. I am using normal 2 cycle injection oil. What is going on? I bought this thing for $750 and am regretting it big time.
Restarting a warm 2 stroke engine usually requires a twist on the throttle to get it to fire up.

It did not die, it just did not restart the next day, the engine was cold.Trafficjamz wrote: When You rode it for 10 miles "and then it wouldn't start anymore" Did it die, or just not restart after turning it off?

Don't call me a dumbass, I had the tip of the plug on the block when I cranked it...THE BRAND NEW PLUG IS 100% DEAD!spree-rider wrote:You DUMBASS you will NEVER get a spark if the spark plug is not grounded to something. i dont mean the coil i mean the spark plug yourself. you plug looks and IS fine.
Re: Won't Start, Plugs Dying?
You are a dumbass if you can't figure this out. Spark without the plug is good and no spark with the plug? Means one thing only - the plug is bad and it does not matter whether it is new or not.DKAudio wrote:Don't call me a dumbass, I had the tip of the plug on the block when I cranked it...THE BRAND NEW PLUG IS 100% DEAD!spree-rider wrote:You DUMBASS you will NEVER get a spark if the spark plug is not grounded to something. i dont mean the coil i mean the spark plug yourself. you plug looks and IS fine.

Re: Won't Start, Plugs Dying?
Guys, I know the plug is bad, why are we debating that? I am trying to figure out what made the brand new plug bad. If I go purchase another plug, get 10 more miles out of the scooter and the plug is bad again, then something else is going on, right? I have had some people say it is the oil, someone mentioned my air filter could be doing it, yet a couple others say it is neither. I want to fix the issue before buying another plug.
I appreciate the help but don't like being insulted when I am troubleshooting properly. I came here for advice because I have only had this scooter for a couple weeks.

I was a professional mechanic for way to long and it happens. I had fresh out of the box plugs that were bad. It will continue to happen as long as the world is not perfect.DKAudio wrote:Guys, I know the plug is bad, why are we debating that? I am trying to figure out what made the brand new plug bad. I have had multiple $14.96 champion plugs bad out of the box.
