Old bike owners not old owners There's a 1979 CB750f for sale in my town for $975. The intruments are taken off but he has them. I'll probably see If he'll connect them before I go see it. Says it runs good but needs carb work.
Just wanted to fish and see if people thought this was a nice price. And any pros and cons to this bike. I know it was the first DOHC
I sold my 1976 CB750 in 1995, so I can't tell you anything at this point. I loved mine though. Sold it because of nerve damage and couldn't ride for hours on end anymore.

Uhh, it's 33 years old. Honda and the other Big 4 Members built thousands, but changed a LOT of details a lot every year in the Mortal Combat to be the Baddest UJM in every motorcycle category. I had a '77 Yamaha XS 750 that was hard to find parts for 25 years ago. "That's been discontinued..." is a popular Dealer refrain. There may be some Internet support for some special models however. Do a search for common replacement parts like oil and air filters, chain sprockets and brake linings before you decide?

Most of my money is spent on scooterparts. The rest is just wasted.

I would rather have my GS500E than the CB750F. Almost as much power with 12 less valves and 2 less pistons and a lot lighter. I had a '82 CB900F... top heavy bike that took a lot of effort to ride.
Thinking about it I still have a spare complete engine and trans sitting in the back corner of my basement plus 4 or 5 boxes of other spare parts. Probably could make some money off them if I needed the space.

You are right that is the first year of the DOHC and that design only lasted a few years. Not as much support as the SOHC bikes, but I am sure there is a forum dedicated to them somewhere.
When you start talking carb troubles, remember there are 4, so thats 4x the cost. These bikes have CV carbs, so there are four 32 year old diaphragms that could potentially be the source of that carb trouble, and those are not cheap. Also these lean-ly tuned bikes utilize a single accelerator pump for the the carbs, again not cheap if its bad.
I'm not trying to be too negative, but IMHO $950 is steep for a bike that could potentially need a couple hundred bucks worth of carb parts, plus the labor and expertise in tuning.
