Where can I buy a piston?

Where can I buy a piston?
1984 honda aero 50. Cheapcycleparts.com has the part #s but do not carry them. They say Honda discontinued them. Any idea where I can get a replacement piston for it? The original one is chewed up to holy heck.

Not yet. I work insane hours and was hoping to find one online. I never get a chance to swing by or call before close. I will try during lunch tomorrow.odinxxix wrote:have you tried your local motorsports shop?

Maybe Taz could hook you up.
You can call your local honda dealer and have them do a national search of all Honda dealers to see if there is a NOS set on a shelf somewhere.

Re: Where can I buy a piston?
I have one If it does not pan out. The latter 80's aero pistons will fit perfet but they have a dome head insted of flat top like the 84. two head gaskets could get you the right compression.

Re: Where can I buy a piston?
This is untrue. Early motors(83-84) have dished, 40mm piston. Later motors have a 41mm piston. I also learned that some later 41mm pistons are dished. So if you have a 40mm piston, PM me.kylebo wrote:I have one If it does not pan out. Re: Where can I buy a piston?
Tom,
If you keep striking out on an 84/83 Aero piston, one thing you might look into is the Honda Express models (PA50, PA50II and NU50). They had a 40mm bore like your model, and similar stroke:
Honda Express: 40 x 39.6
Honda Aero 83/84: 40 x 39.3
Part numbers are not exact, so there's some difference. Honda Express looks like a domed piston vs dished. If that's all, you'd be back in business. Here is a rough comparison of the Aero 50 vs PA50 piston. There is a PA50 piston on eBay, perhaps the seller can give you more info - piston pin height or any other helpful info for a possible swap.

Re: Where can I buy a piston?
Thanks - no need toI could kiss you.
One thing helpful to all who follow your path would be to find out the piston pin dia and height of the 83/84 vs later models. If you can measure that, an idea result would be to bore out to 41mm and use an AF05 piston. That might finally give 83/84 users a 'bore kit' option, since there are some sources of +1, +2mm or more pistons for the AF05.
Thanks in advance - mousewheels
Re: Where can I buy a piston?
I have them both. The later model piston is considerably shorter. The pins seem to be the same size, but there would be little to no compression. I will post pictures later. I would have just bored my jug to 41mm. But that isn't happening.mousewheels wrote:Thanks - no need toI could kiss you.![]()

Re: Where can I buy a piston?
All those use 10mm pins, I believe.
Other critical dimension is compression height, which is the distance from the center of the pin to the top face of the piston.
If you have two pistons with the same diameter, pin size, and compression height, they are for all intents and purposes interchangeable.

completely different
Old chewed up one on the right(83-84) and late model on the left

Re: Where can I buy a piston?
you could do 2 things to that piston , 66mph back then- ahhh those were the days.
some people dream of speed, i own your dreams!
