Greetings:
This afternoon TinyTach's nifty Hour meter declared a run time of 50 hours since the Corsa top end was installed on Flash's 3's 2001 block.
The bore kit was used but in excellent shape from CustomX22. (Except the crinkled foil base gasket...)
Sadly, due to my Stop-and-Go 3-mile commute, that's a mere 1200 miles. It's been fed by a 24mm OKO for the first 2/3rds of that time. The 26mm installed a few months backresulted in a significant gain in top speed, as did the 7.58 gears. I have yet to test under optimal conditions for Top Speed Bragging Rights. (Downhill, downwind, drafting an 18-Wheeler... And Lying.
Best recorded speed was 69.9 in cool weather last spring. But that's not the point. The point is the effortless way I can stay with rush-hour traffic on the Deepinnaharta Freeway riding home. The looks I get from SUV owners as I pass them in the left lane are priceless. Daily GPS readings above 60, as high as 68.5 while being blocked in by traffic are routine.
Best of all, despite tall gears and stupid-rich jetting, I can squirt ahead of traffic from stoplights and on-ramps, and I have begun to relax my sphincter and just not worry about the engine grenading in the fast lane. Temps only approach 350 after Looongg stretches of WOT cut to half-throttle. Gas mileage seems to be 50-ish (almost as good as my 1200 Sportster on the highway) and Kickstart Comperssion Tester says it's good for a long time to come.
Maybe the Malossi is stronger and revs higher, but it's hard to imagine a better bore than the Corsa for daily rider streetability.
Bravo Polini!
