You should put the shroud back on.

I've heard its fine to run without them if your just doing heat cycles to let the bore warm up quicker.
Its not under any load nor is it recieving any throttle

its fine!!! your only letting idle till the engine gets to around 250deg then shut it off. it only takes about 5min or so to get to that temp. instead of waiting 25min for it to get to 217. I've done all my engines like that with no issues. just don't ride it without the shroud on.

you do know that the 70's and early 80's dirt bikes where not watercooled with no fan or shroud on them

Yeah and they didn't have plastic covers surrounding the engine either. And rookies forget things like the shrouds when they get hot to ride the d*** thing.
