Thanks for all the info guys. I build rotary motors so im not all that intelligent with piston motors. But i still dont have all the info i need to try and rebuild again. I attached a couple more photos there was no breakaway from the rings they are still all fine but whats even weirder is there is no gash on the bore itself just port holes that arent shaved down like i figured they would need to be.

Alright well the end gap could be the problem I put them on exactly how the manual said being as careful as I could to not stretch them. I don't have the head matched but I was running two base gaskets which tazland said should have zero issues,

I measure .8 of a centimeter i dont have anything to get more accurate with.
Yeah and stupid lazy dumb asses seem unable to open a manual and READ. The info is there and by just handing the info to them you enable them to continue to be stupid lazy dumb asses, making you part of the problem and not helpful at all. The education system has failed and has produced a generation of worthless lazy cry babies.

What is the compression?
What year is your spree?
A 1984/85 head on a 86/87 makes about 150psi
add a 48mm bbk to that and your compression could be through the roof!
High compression engines make alot of heat. Heat expands things (like rings).

The gap is probably that big from pulling them off the piston after it got chunked. And bear what are forums for if we aren't supposed to ask questions?

Forums are for asking question that are NOT written down for any idiot to find in the service manual. Most of these morons have not even downloaded the manual know how to find where the information is much less be able to read it and understand what it says. Case in point, half these dunder heads think the number listed at the front of the carb section for the idle mixture screw is where you set it and leave it. They have not bother to read what the manual tells them to do to set it properly. And of course have of them end up with idle problems and off idle stumbles. So is very applicable and needs to be said.
