'99 elite 50sr won't start cold.

Post by cohibarandy »

It seems like have to spray starting fluid into the intake of my honda 50 SR to start it when the outside temp is below 70 degree F. It starts in seconds after it is warmed up. I am pretty sure I have checked the bystarter in the past. It only has 580 miles on it. Anybody else having this problem.
Thanks in advance

DO NOT USE STARTING FLUID ON 2 STROKE ENGINES......................EVER!

Starting fluid washes the oil off the cylinder walls and piston there by causing metal to metal contact. Starting fluid, AKA ether is an explosive and if it explodes in the crank case will at least blow out your reeds.

If you must prime the engine use a squirt container of 32 to 1 gas and oil premix.

Are you leaving the throttle closed while trying to start the motor cold?

Yes. I leave the throttle closed. I guess I need to check the bystarter again.
I think my bike is addicted to motor heroin(starting fluid).
Thanks for the info on the starting fluid. Thankfully no damage to this point. The dang thing will go 50 on the flat, and I weigh 220.
