Acceptable product for cleaning transmission case?

Hello,

I am in the process of doing a gear change and figured while I have the transmission case cracked open I might as well clean it up. Is it ok to use simple green in that area of the scooter? I know simple green is great for cleaning exterior of engine but wasn't sure bout internal parts.

x2 just wear goggles and do it outside its some nasty crap. even useing it outside still get headaches from it!

That works well but be sure to have it all gone before assembly. That will eat away your oil when you fill it again. Then you will need to replace the bearings if not the gears and shafts too.

The neat thing about Brakleen is evaporates fast and leaves no residue. I see no way that anyone is fast enough to use this stuff, then prep the gasket, install the new seals and still have any residue left. Oh and it might dilute the oil but eat............NOT gonna happen ever.

I meant it would break down the oil, not literally eat it. If you spray a lot of it and it gets back behind the bearings or in a pocket, it will sit there. Just hit it with a blower and you will be good.

It is designed to evaporate fast and even a puddle will only last a minute or two.
