AERO 50---Idle and mixture screw settings.

Post by Kemmer »

What are the default idle and mix screw settings? I just rebuild my carb and didn't pay attention to how it was. Before the rebuild it was bogging down if I hit the gas too hard off the line and it wasn't starting/idleing well when warm, but other than that it ran nicely. The float wasn't working right and gas was overflowing as well.

Since I rebuild the carb, it's not overflowing anymore, but now it's really hard to start. I have to put my hand over the back of the carb to block off the air or use carb cleaner to get it to start. Once it starts the engine is racing. If I turn the mixture screw way out the idle slows some but it runs like s*** and eventually dies.

When I was working on the carb it looked like the float was allowed to go up to high and I figured that's why it was overflowing. I bent the little tab a bit so that when holding the carb upside down the float stayed exactly horizontal. Do you think this has anything to do with my current problem?

I found the mix and idle screw settings and it's roughly what I've been using. I think I must be running really lean for some reason. I don't thing there's an air leak at the intake, so I'm not really sure what it could be. Float level?

I havent tested the bystarter. I don't have a pressure tester, so I can't check that, but I'll test the resistance when I get home.

I tested the resistance on the bystarter, 4.6 ohms, so it looks like that might not be the problem. I'll need to get a pressure tester before I can test that more, right?

I did make a little progress. I figured out that the heat insulator was on upside down and causing an air leak. I flipped it and that took care of the racing problem.

Now it seems to be running rich. It can't get it to idle and it bogs down when I snap the throttle. I'm starting to wonder about this thing...

Go to tech docs on the bystarter. If you apply 12V it will, over 30-60 seconds, retract a bit. That's all it does.

Is the factory air cleaner in place? It will run like that without it.

The air cleaner is in place, but the cover is only loosely screwed on. Maybe I'll tighten it down and see if that helps.

Can you elaborate a little on what you mean by "you have your carb tuned wrong." How do I fix it?

What are you going to do with it without the plastics?
