Scooter wont run up hill

Post by Editian182 »

I have a 85 spree. When given full throttle totally loses power and shuts off. When on flat land runs fine but with some hesitation(still cant give the spree full throttle). When going uphill is when the problem really occurs(loses all power and cant go full throttle).

Any help or tips are greatly appreciated!!!!

Do you have the airbox and air filter on?

If you do have the air box on I would look for any air leaks. If all is there with no leaks. I would then take off the carb and give it a good cleaning.

How can you give advise without knowing all the conditions of the engine?

What else do you need?? He said runs ok but not a full throttle. You say do you have air box and filter.
I say don't be a hypocrite :surprise: you gave advice without knowing all of that engine stuff too.
also with the description he gives the main things that I have learned that cause this are no air box or air leak and maybe even low compression.
All I was doing was trying to give a place to start.

I do have an airbox. No filter in the airbox. When i bought the scooter it ran perfect and since an oil change it has not. I have heard cleaning the carb does help. Would nOt having a air filter really matter that much?... I have been running the scooter for about two weeks without one.

without the filter you are sucking crap in the motor and it is or will ware out your rings making you lose compression and bringing the motor to its death..

clean the carb you have suck a lot of dust and what not in it so cleaning the carb wood not hurt ..

Greetings:

The immediate problem due to a lack of filter isn't the dirt that's being drawn into your engine. That will be an issue down the road, but rat now the issue is that the air enters without inducing the negative pressure that the oiled element induces when it's in the box. Honda-san was counting on that negative pressure when he sized the Pilot circuit as well as the Main jet. Consequently, there's not enough fuel being sucked into the intake stream to match the generous gulps of air. In short, the engine is running lean. That will ruin your engine much quicker than the dirt.
