thing you shod do

mix about 2 0z of oil in the gas tank ..when you change the oil line you wont have oil in the motor ..not good bad big bad get it ..

you have two line to the petcock vac and gas put them both on it first .. then get a small glass put the one that the gas come out in the glass and suck on the other one gas shooed come out of the other one..
when you stop sucking on it the gas shod stop .. don't put the gas back in the tank it may have naste in it ..

if all well put the gas hose on first then suck on the other it shod fill the carb and make it ezer to start..

OK, I'll give that a try, since I will have a new vac line it will be less unpleasant... lol
I have 32:1 premix here for my other 2-stroke, I guess after I empty the tank I will put a small amount of premix in the tank and use that for the initial starting.

On the oil, while cleaning the motor I ended up pulling out the oil pump (pretty much by mistake, I didnt expect it to pop right out like that) I got it back in, o-ring in place etc, but I am wondering if there is anything else I should do to prime it or whatever after its been pulled like that?

Also, is there any special kind of 2-stroke oil I should be using? Just standard ashless 2-stroke oil, the green kind?

you ma want to put some oil down the spark plug hole 3 or 4 drops ...
the oil pump make me nerves its bolt in i think
make sure the air filter is on and the lid is on as well and if it starts yell swimmingfree lol lol

On my way out the door to the autoparts store to get the hoses etc. Hoping to find some sort of foam for the air filter, cause the one I got decintegrated.... I know the foam dampens the air flow a bit, I wouldn't expect it to run properly without it? (I wont ride it, but might try to start it witout the foam in place) Is there anything special about that air filter foam, any easily available products that can be used to replace it, or do I need to seek a Honda replacement?

if the filter is the same as for the 94-01 sa50 i have one i will send you for free, it was laying on the ground when i bought my motor at the scrap yard. i paid enough for it that i wasnt leaving ANYTHING behind hahahha i think someone just bought a swuare piec of filter material and cut it themselves. you can get a square piece I think at Lowes for starters. Its best to get the OEM replacement for the long haul. I torn off a chunk of a seat cushion and stuck in my spree air box after i soaked it in motor oil of course hahhaha it ran good for 1000 miles

Got the old gas out of the tank by applying suction to the vac line, put some fresh fuel in there and shook it around abit and drained that out too. I think the gas tank should be good enough to go now.
I got my new gas and vac lines, didnt find an air filter though. I was looking for just a generic square block but they didnt have any at the autoparts store (or homedepot yesterday). I see no real need to go oem, I just need a big enough square and I can cut and fit it in there. I will give lowes a try, otherwise will seek something out on the internet....
Not sure if I will get around to putting it back together tonight or not....

For the air filter use a piece of foam that's fine grained and that you can blow air through. Soak it in 80-90 gear oil, squeeze it out and put it in. The fuel you use could be pre-mixed with 2 cycle oil at about 50 to 1. It will start. The compression is harder to test than I thought because the volume of the hose and gauge is so big compared to the combustion chamber. You get really low readings and they are not accurate. Just put it together and start it! A tiny bit of 2 cycle oil in the cylinder will help with the first start, but not much, like one drop.

The feeling you get, deep in your belly, when the thing starts and fills the garage with smoke and noise is a combination of joy and nausea. Do it outside.

i have a spree and they don't run right with out the air filter the stock one .. well that a little wrong but my input is to get one at the honda dealer .. you are not good anuff to start playing that game yet ..the stock is your best bet for you now.. it may start with no filter in the box and the lid on or it may not start .. if you grab something and put it in if its to dents not anuff air to munch gas to rich not dents anuff to munch air and not anuff gas lean .

I understand that the resperation of a 2-stroke is effected by the air filter, as well as the exhaust etc, and changing any of it will adjust the mix and effect how the bike runs. So the original damping factor from the air filter will have to reproduced to make her run right, otherwise some carb adjustments would be required.
As you know I am probably not fixing this thing up to ride myself, so I am not into putting much money into it either. Seeing the price tag on the cheap little starter for this thing set me back, cost more than the last starter I put on a car, a BIG car with a BIG starter! So I am a little afriad to even ask what a genuine honda air filter costs for this thing.
I might get a chance to turn her over today and see if she fires, once I see how that goes we will deal with the air filter I guess....

im not sure on the price of the air filter there not bad... about 10 but i run a after market one .. so things are looking up for a start to night .. put some oil in the spark plug hole 2to3 drops before you try prime the carb with gas and cross your fingers ..

I've been looking for OEM air filters online and found one on ebay, about $10 delivered, so not too bad, I am surprised. I found a place called cheapcycleparts.com that has it for $7.50 but they want $10 bucks to ship the small weightless filter. Guess if I buy it will be from Ebay...
I am wondering what kind of aftermarket filter you are using? If I have to replace it and this foam is gonna cost as much as an aftermarket upgrade maybe I should go that route?

no take it wrong your better staying stock ..it can be a big pain to switch the air filter you have to up jet and at this time your better off staying stock .. its cheaper and hassle free.. your not keeping it so why bother for now ... or have you made other plans of it now????

No, still not planning on keeping it. I just thought that you had found an aftermarket air filter that works without jetting the carb etc. You're right, I am more interested in just getting this thing to run than sooping it up...
However, when I put the chinese 2-stroke motor on my mountain bike it came with the newer CNS carb that nobody seems to be able to run well. I did float adjustments and jetted the carb and got mine running sweet, so I am not completely clueless about the carb function and adjustments. I do have the drill bit set that would be needed to jet the carb, but your right, I dont really want to mess with all that, at least right now.
I am just about to pull off the carb and clean it, and have to scrape out the rest of that gasket on the crankcase cover and then I can reasseble everything and give her a try. Gonna get started now, hope I can get this all done pretty fast cause I only have a couple hours today...

i find it best to start with a running motor and with spear parts do what ever and if it don't work go back to stock and running .. i have a spree and im going to put that motor in it well i think it that motor you have in my spree mine has a 4 bolt intake manifold.. so for me to tell you to get this and that size jet i don't have that anser i think i do but will not lead you down that path .. so better for me to stay out of that ..if you were going to keep and do a little this or that we cood talk but i wood not say im right

Just got done cleaning the carb and the only thing I can say is OH MY GOD!!!
There was so much crap in there, I could not believe what I was seeing! Thick sludge in the bottom of the bowl, carb cleaner wouldnt touch it, had to scrape it out and clean over and over. The main jet was covered over in sludge so bad I couldnt see the jet, or the slot in it.
I just popped into the house for a sec to poke through this jet a bit, and couldn't resist posting about the amount of crap I found in this carb. This scoot would never run with a carb in that condition... WOW!!!
