Elite 50 (SE50P) locked up, starter???

Hmm, discontinued part, nobody seems to have in stock? Does anyone know of a place that might have this part for an old '87 Elite on hand, or a newer part that would work for my scooter?

I did a cross-reference on the part number for you and this is the list i got back

1985 NB50M A FRONT WHEEL
1986 NB50 A FRONT WHEEL
1987 NB50 A FRONT WHEEL
1987 SE50 A FRONT WHEEL
1987 SE50P A FRONT WHEEL
1987 SE50P AA FRONT WHEEL

if you cant find a used brake hub for the se50 you can try searching for an 86 or 87 aero, it may be easier to get the hole brake hub than just the gear since it is discontinued

You need to get familiar with Jack Stanley at www.jacksscootershop.com. First of all, the website is full of interesting and useful information, and Jack has a supply of parts for Honda scooters. He's very helpful and he knows his scooters, too.

Would standard SAE 30 motor oil be ok for the trans on my 1987 Elite 50?

Greetings:

You could probably get away with Mazzola Corn Oil in that low-stress gearcase. However Honda-san specifies a multi-grade oil, and I for one prefer to go with what He says. Unless I have leftovers from an oil change, then I put that in.

Yah, I had the SAE 30 sitting around cause I use in in my generator, didn't have any 10W-40....

Hey guys, been riding the scooter a couple weeks now and it's running pretty d*** good. Amazing after sitting for over 10 years how this thing runs so well, with so little work really (well, I guess I did quite a bit of work, but it cost me next to nothing, just an air filter, spark plug and battery.... less than $40 bucks total!)
So, as predicted by some, I am considering keeping it now and getting plates etc. I had expected that to cost a bit more, but insurance for a year is only $75 bucks, so that's not too bad. Since warm weather is gone now I wont be able to ride much more, so I will probably wait until spring to make her legal...
I really dig the scooter, but the color is tough to swallow, it looks like it was originally some sort of light purple, but now it has faded and pretty much looks PINK! LOL So I find myself riding around on a pink scooter, not something I ever expected to be doing! The outer panels are black, but the inside panels are all pink'ish. These pink panels are all plastic, bumpy plastic, not smooth like the outer panels. I would like to paint them another color but I am afraid the paint wont stick and I will end up with an ugly mess??? Does anybody know of a good paint or technique that can be used to paint these plastic panels another color? I guess maybe I could try and replace the panels, but since this Elite 50 was only sold for one year (1987) I'm thinking these panels are gonna be next to impossible to come up with? I know very little about these scooters, perhaps there is more common Honda scooter similar enough to the '87 Elite 50 that has the same body panels?
The seat is the same ugly pinkish color, but it is stained up badly from years of sitting and has started to rip since I have been riding it. I found a guy on Ebay selling the seat covers for $30 bucks in just about any color scheme you want, so I got that one covered (pun intended!) Changing the seat color will be a nice improvement, but I still would like to get rid of the rest of the pink on the bike if possible...
I figure over the winter I will rip the bike apart to paint and do all the cleaning/lubing/adjusting that I know it need after sitting so long, and I am sure the kid didn't do all the proper maintenance before he rode it to death.
If anyone has any info that could help me get these panels painted or replaced I would appreciate the input...

Scooters are addictive. It gets worse hahah you may experience fevers, night sweats, anxiety, and obsessive compulsive disorder. I am sure there are all kinds of bonding agents out there for plastic but I have never used that kind of paint dont have all the spray tools. Walmart does have a plastic spray paint that works fairly well but doesnt last long and will wear off of high use areas like the floorboard. The main thing is to sand all the pieces you want to paint and wash clean after sanding to remove the dust. An inexpensive alternative until you can invest more money in good paint etc Had mine painted with the walmart stuff for several months now and it still looks really good.

Actually I find the motorized bike to be more fun to ride than the scooter. I guess maybe it's because it has a clutch and you are more involved in the mechanics of the ride than you are on a scooter. Plus my motorized bike is just plain cool, it looks cool and is completely unique, one of a kind. Everyone comments on it, I can hardly ride for all the people trying to flag me down and ask me a million questions about it. The scooter isn't nearly as cool or interesting, I don't turn heads like I do on the motorized bike. I have actually had people bust out laughing at me while I was riding around on the scooter, I guess maybe the pink color had something to do with that! Nobody laughs at my motorized bike, it's just too d*** cool!
After riding the scooter a bit I took the motorized bike out and really enjoyed the ride. The motorized bike is more fun to ride, I have more pride in it and people respond to it quite a bit, which is always nice. I can ride it like a mountain bike, trails, streets, rough terrain etc. I can manipulate the motorized bike almost like a regular mountian bike and have a much more aggressive ride than I could ever have on the scooter. The scooter is nice for longer rides, better for general transportation than the motorized bike. I can take it to the store, it parks and locks up better, I can carry some groceries or whatever on it much easier than on the motorized bike. I could sit someone on the back of the scooter and go, could never do that on the motorized bike. So they both have their place, but it's really apples and oranges.....

These panals that are pink are not smooth panals like the outer ones, you know how the floor panal has grooves in it, and the other panals all have a slightly textured surface kinda like goosebumps. I dont think I can sand any of the panals because of this texture?

You might try steel wool soaked with a solvent, scrub it down as good as you can or until your patience runs out, then wash it well, dry it and paint it with spray paint made for plastic. If you use a flat or textured paint the surface unevenness will be harder to see. If you use lighter colors it's easier to make it look good. Work with the solvent outside and, if it's not windy, run a fan across the work so you don't breathe that stuff.
