speedo cable compatibility

Im needing a speedo cable for my 87 elite but it seems hard to obtain one. Doe anyone know if a speedo cable from something else work?

Any of the '94-2001 Elite speedometer cables should work.

Well an 88 speedo cable isnt nearly as long as an 87

That's one of the tough parts about cable compatibility. Different routing and plastics changes often triggered cable changes. Honda's part number coding is a clue they differ, but it's no way to tell what changed. For Brake cables, lever side and brake side cable ferrules vary in dia too.
