89 Elite R - my first build

Post by Carnie »

I've actually never tried the car wash. I'm assuming you just have to make sure you have no opening to the crank, transmission, and exhaust? Then just blast away?

So last night i got the girlfriend to try the breath rite strips to help with snoring. unluckily for me i got the wrong size, so it only amplified the sound.

since sleeping was not an option for the time being I decided to tinker a little more with the motor to prep for the new parts.

Got the oil pump out, and the intake off.

the snores haunted me as i worked........

Now I didn't try prying the reeds out without consulting you folks.

They seem to be on their pretty good, looks to be held on by the gasket. Are their any ways to remove these without doing any damage and our garb going down the port?

Greetings:

The brown plastic is more brittle than a Robert Downey drug recovery. Spray liberally with The Bear's 50/50 ATF/Actetone solution, wait a few hours, and use a THIN-blade knife or better still an old-style straight razor to work all around the gasket gap. Avoid the temptation to pry in any way. With any luck you can pop 'em off without cracking the plastic. If you do, UPGRADE OPPORTUNITY! to go get a CT manifold. Stuff something down the reed holes but don't bend the petals too far.

There just speaking in general. I have no plans to take a pressure washer to my motor in its current state. Just getting it ready for the new parts that are on the way.

The half moon gear needs to line up with the kick out gear so that the teeth mesh. Look close and you will see there is a section where the teeth will not mesh to stop over rotation. That needs to be aligned.

After you align it properly, you may have to remove the kick start lever and reposition it.
