Oil Question

Post by Jim Moore »

First, an apology. Sorry, I'm a dumbass. I'm sure this has been answered a million times here, but I couldn't find it. I was at the scooter store recently and I bought a quart of Amsoil Interceptor synthetic 2 cycle oil. It says recommended for use where API-TC or JASO FC oils are specified.

I seem to remember reading on here that my Elite 50 needs an oil that says "2T" on it. This stuff does not say 2T anywhere. Am I good-to-go with this stuff?

Thanks,

Jim Moore

Greetings:

"2T" refers to oil designed for 2-stroke engines. ("Deux Temps" in French means two-times, or an engine that makes one power stroke for every "stroke" or "time" of the crankshaft.)

Nobody here has any strong opinions about Brand choice... :ndance:

That's good for outboards and bad for air cooled engines, IE scooter motors. TCW stands for "Two Cycle Water cooled". You want air cooled injector oil with the stock pump and 2 cycle air cooled oil for premix.

Thanks Bear. Good reason to change the oil lines while I'm at it.

I just emptied my NB50's oil tank that was full of TWC3 oil left over from my snowmobile days - decided to try the Honda GN2 ash-free oil.

I am very impressed with how clean burning it is - Its basically smoke-less.

Unless you snowmobile was water-cooled you were using the wrong oil there too.

For pre-mix only, not oil pumps.
