National Rally 2012

Post by Carnie »

I think it would be nice to bring it to a small town that has a lot of public land. This will give areas to stay without much problems or violations. Also, it will bring some business back to those small communities (ma and pa shops). I think this has a lot of potential!

Any other suggestions or is the idea out the window for the time being?

I have family that owns a quite a bit of land in south eastern Kansas. Don't know if they would be open to hosting an event but I can always ask.

This get together is just looking for someone to set it up. Frankly, I think it would be more realistic to hold a few regional events first and build to national, but that's just me. Do one in MI, SoCal, are two concentration I know of.

Somewhere near St. Louis would be a good crossroad nationally... there are a ton of small towns around there that would work for this in southern IL.

What you need (if I'm understanding you all correctly) is somewhere to set up camp, and a small town nearby for supplies.

To be central, and fit schedules, you're looking at June - August timeframe; schools are out and weather is good country-wide. Weather in IL would be good for camping at that time of year as well.

So then, it just becomes a matter of figuring out who all is going, and from that headcount, finding a place to set up camp.

You may shift around based on concentration as well. For example, there are a ton of members in MI; if 90% of your attendance is from that state, it would be better to put it somewhere over that way.

The concept of first having a regional(or two) would be a good idea. Of course, central U.S. is the likely spot to have a National Rally, and a regional rally for Central U.S. would serve as the pioneer for information gathering to be used in planning a National. I already have plans to be in central Illinois during the last two weeks of June 2012. This would allow me to visit proposed sites and make evaluations. I'm strongly in favor of having a regional rally in the hometown of an active(and willing) member to make planning less challenging. Michiganders have the inside track for making a successful North-Central Rally...and then there's the scooter-racing events in Michigan that would make for an awesome setting to Rally around....... :urban:

If you guys put something together in Michigan I'm in. Live in North Carolina but could get there. Would have to plan ahead, as I'm sure everybody would. I know when I lived in Mi there was a boatload of Sprees.

If people want to come to MI, I could organize a cruise/track day pretty easy.

there are lots of campsite/rv parks nearby as well.

Michigan also has no helmet laws or insurance needed for riding a moped.

Don't do indian casinos until they start paying taxes instead of just taking tax dollars and their casino profits too.

trafficjamz....making this happen successfully the first time will have a good chance if lower Michigan is the location...IMHO....for you to act as liason to the board is a natrual choice... :thumbwink:
I could'nt find the 2012 date for Thunderdrome. You mentioned a track day. Where do you suggest?...let's do some serious looking at dates..... :urban:

northern michigan dragway is my home track.

It is an 1/8th mile drag strip that allows scooters to race.

I would be willing to pay all the pit passes for anyone who is willing to make the trip. :2thumbs:

There are miles and miles of scooter friendly routes that overlook lake michigan. perfect for a rally.

Spreetard, fastplastic, redspree, spreemadness520,tospreeornottospree,kruzer,and many others live very close also.

I agree with you there swimmingfree, a little swap meet would be very beneficial to most who come, not to mention add a little bit to the experience.
