Elite [SB50] 50

Post by lovemyelite50 »

I have this elite 50, and I have been driving it for two years, and know when you hit the throttle, it is soo slow and gutless, and when I first got it it was faster, it takes like 10 seconds to get to 10 mph. Any ideas on what's wrong? I already put a clutch in it.

Or cleaned the carb? Changed the spark plug? Will it rev well on the kickstand with no load?

Yes I have cleaned the carb very thuroughly and it has a brand new Honda spark plug, and yes it revvs like crazy! When it is on the center stand. It also has a brand new clutch and flywheel thing.
So hopefully I can figure out what is wrong

Yeah, on the carb there will be 2 adjustment screws, one is for air fuel mixture the other is for idle speed.

1) With small flat head screw driver turn the A/F screw all the way into the carb. Then rotate it back out 2 full rotations. Try that and see if it makes any difference.

2)To continue getting that mix perfect leave it running on the kickstand so the tire is able to spin freely

3) screw in the idle speed screw a bit so the rpms are a few hundred higher than standard which should be set to around 1800 rpms(but who knows where it is exactly if you dont have a tachometer for it).

4) Now move the A/F screw in 1/8 of a turn and wait 10-15 seconds and try to hear if the RPMS increased from that adjustment

5) Keep track of how many rotations you have done once the rpms drop lower reverse the direction of the screw unit the engine reaches its peak rpm, this might bring you all the way back to 2 rotations out like you started with, just play it by ear.

6) Oh and you will do the same thing as you did when you brought the screw in. On the way back out make sure to wait 10-15 secs before adjusting again. When the idle start decreasing move it back in very small rotations ( do like 1/32 of a rotation or so) until your peak is reached. Good luck.

Yes, I have tried multiple times with th air fuel. It also has a brand new belt. I have dumped about 600$ in this thing. But it's only slow at low speeds. So I was thinking maybe a headgasket.

No, the compression test I have not done. The motor has about 8k and I have never even had the engine apart.

I would go and rent a compression tester, 8k is quite a bit. I think anything below 95 psi or so would deserve a new piston on rings. Its cheap and easy.

The motor doesn't need to have been apart for the compression to go down, 8k miles of normal wear and tear can do it.
