How rusty is too rusty

Post by kingkamehameha »

Im in the process of cleaning all the old rust from my tank and i was wondering if every last spec of it has to be taken off. Id say 85-90% is back to silver. Ive done 2 clr treatments. Should i do a third one? Im gonna snap some pics

Greetings:

A little surface rust won't hurt. 80% silver is already pretty good. The thing to avoid is the thick stuff that flakes off. An inline Cone O' Stone filter can save even that.

That said, you sound like you want it clean enough to drink your Pinot Noir out of it. Sure, hit it one more time with CLR, or better still, Muriatic acid. Bike shops carry commercial Branded products you can try.

Clr is working pretty good. There was a quarter inch of mud caked to the bottom of it. Afterni did the first treatmet it all came off.

Nice. I didn't think anything could cut through that much mud! I'd love to see pics if you still have them.
