Hey all! I though I'd show you guys just what I've been up to.
(no-picture part)
Nearly two years ago I bought an '86 Spree for $100 on craiglist. The PO used it as a pit bike for his son's motocross events, so when I first got it, everything was caked in mud. I really just wanted to dip my toes into how motorcycles/small engines worked, I really had no intention to use it as any kind of serious transportation. Just a toy to pick apart.
I started the way every newbie starts, by unbolting EVERYTHING from it. A lot of the plastic was shot, there was a thick film of mud-and-oil all over the entire thing. I initially started just with dish soap and water, which was hilariously ineffective. Then I gave up and I moved on to the crank-case and everything in it, oblivious to the concept of engine gaskets. Lots of scraped knuckles, cursing and hand-washing. Fluids were drained, hoses unclamped, all that good stuff. Lots of mistakes were made (basically my entire post history!)
I had the brilliant idea to install studs instead of bolts to affix the head cylinder. I took the bolts off, which promptly seized and left the threads useless. I tried to use the little bit of threading that remained to install studs, which fit in weird and crooked and snapped off. At that point I decided to take a hiatus from doing this.
Fast forward to last week.
I up and decide hey, I owe it to this poor thing to make it run again. It taught me how to work on an engine, and gave me the confidence to start working on my car. I painted the frame, stripped everything down to a ridiculous degree, and got to work.
Here is the album of all that I've done so far!

Next on the menu: new engine case from user Mystic, and a ChopChop BBK. Progress shots will continue.
E: also, I got the nudie-scoot idea from someone in the scooter pics thread, and I'm sad to say I don't remember whose it was. I believe it was an Elite that he did. If you match this description, please tell me who you are so I can give you a big shout-out.
