starter problems and no power at wot

Post by dp4auburn »

Hey all,
just picked up a 1987 Honda spree. Got it running today bit have a few problems. The first time I tried to start it after checking everything out, the starter started turning the engine over and would not stop. Its almost like the button is stuck. I had to disconnect the battery to make it stop turning over, even after turning the key off and taking it out. Any clues?

I can start it with the kickstart the first time with the battery undone. Runs awesome on the stand. So I hop on and wide open throttle and off I go for like 2 seconds then the power dies. I let the throttle go back to idle and try again and it runs wide open for a second then dies off back to idle.
I don't get it since it runs like a scalded dog on the stand.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

The starter relay is stuck if your scooter keeps trying to start.

Check for air leaks or clogged fuel filter, for the wot problem.

Wow man u were right on with the air leaks. The intake tube from the airbox was barely hanging on the Carb. I snugged it down and sealed around the airbox lid and she runs like a champ now. Had it up to 28 mph so far, and that's cause I ran out of room on my road.
I tapped on the relay and it unstuck and fixed the starter problem too.

You couldn't wipe the smile off my face right now. Thanks for the help!

you have a bad/dirty float needle.
