Looking at 88 Elite this week

Post by gulfstorm »

Hello all,

I am taking a look at a non-running elite this Friday which apparently turns over and that's about it. Any suggestions as to what I should pay attention to would be great?. I have fixed up two sprees thus far but never an elite 50 so we ll see. Hoping to get it for $100.

I'm guessing if it's just a matter of carb clean, plugs, air etc it ll be easy but if the motor run dry with no oil then it's another story....

Would love to hear from everyone....

Ps what upgrade is an elite over spree.....

Thanks

Is it an elite r or an elite e?

The r is a major upgrade in performance. The e is a minor upgrade in performance but it does have storage under the seat.

Greetings:

Honda-san's 1988 USA Showrooms featured two 50cc "Elite" offerings:
1. The Elite LX designated by Model Code SA50 or SA50P. As stated, these feature VARIATOR-equipped SA05E engines which handily outperform the Spree-based non-Variated engines inherited from the Spree models in the:
2. Elite "ES" and Elite "E" models designated by Model Code SB50. The ES represents the stock performance ceiling of the Spree-derived SA05E engines withOUT Variator. If the kickstarter swings FORWARD, yours is an SB. Stockers have reportedly run 35MPH but a little slow on take-off due to single-speed drivetrain.

A nice-looking, titled, running Elite ES could sell for $300-$500, depending on season, buyer, seller stress, etc. An Elite LX should fetch a hundred or two more.

Most of my money is spent on scooterparts. The rest is just wasted.

Canada didn't get the LX, the se50 model was run for multiple years.
