Questions about Elite 50 SR shocks front & rear

Was reading the shop manual on my 2001 Elite 50 SR and it appears the front & rear shocks do not provide damping (no oil damping) unless that part is not serviceable.

Being 200+ lbs the stock shocks are a bit soft & bouncy

I need stiffer springs and more rebound damping

What are the options for heavier shock springs & oil damping?
Do they make race shocks either front or rear ?

If the stock ones were rebuildable I could increase the oil weight to increase damping
Don't know if the shocks have compression & rebound valving or shim stacks that could be modified or tuned for rider weight & road conditions

Maybe I'm over thinking this ?

Aftermarket shocks are available.

I do not know of a way to rebuild stock shocks.

No your not over thinking it. I race my scooter in a scooter racing group and in a local supermoto group and I have adjustable suspension on the front and rear. There is a full disc brake conversion you can get in hawaii for your bike. The forks that come in that kit it oil filled. Its a non shim style but old school hole pass through so you can play with oil weight only. The sring if need be stiffer you can have re made or just make a spacer to put in like the older style fzr bikes had. The rear you can buy malossi,stage6.rms,rrgs,ox or yms that make damper adjust and spring preload style shocks. Some even have rebound adjustment too(stage6,ox,yms) they get pricey at around $400.stage6 makes a full adjustable front fork but you would have to find a jog or minarelli front wheel a brake setup. That's the fork of choice in europe for the scooter racing circuit right now. So yes they make adjustable suspension for scooters to race on.

I'm guessing scooter racing is like motorcycle racing in that you should put your money into suspension first
Get the bike sticking to the road as good as possible

Worry about engine performance later

Yeah I believe in good handling over power first. My first year out in the psra I raced on a malossi mhr 72cc setup and beat guys on vespas and lambrettas with 133cc-225cc kits at every race. Never was off the podium. We have veteran racers that raced big bikes too. One guy is a twins champion in omrra Drat driestler. So there are good riders out here. I also race in the supermoto events in seattle in the open am class.last winter I was in the mid pack and even podiumed at one event.this was at pgp kart track in seattle. So these bikes can compete with larger cc bikes. If you want to see videos , you can go on youtube and type in psra or bakaracer. I'm #68 red/white and black elite50. The newer videos I switched to a bigger cc setup since everyone went bigger and more hp so didn't want to be left behind.

Having a hard time finding a place to buy a High Performance Shock

Did find one that looks very interesting + drops the weight of the steel spring
(uses air spring like my mountain bike shock)
Air spring can be changed to match rider weight
Rebound adjustment
Compression adjustment
It's pretty expensive tho

No one that I can find lists a HP shock for an 01 Elite 50 SR / SA50

you have to look for shock size 260mm-285mm in length. zuma,ruckus,aerox,aprilia sr50 use those sizes. if you google those model bikes and put shock after the name, alot of sites will come up.under sa50 or elite you will only find mostly a spring preload style shocks.

Even Daywot's $70 blue shock is a VAST improvement over stock. Damping is laughable, but at least you can ramp up the spring. The C100 Honda shocks fit the Elite fork. They're not adjustable, but seem a good bit stiffer sprung than Honda's stock covered spring shocks.

Looks like all the good expensive shocks with external reservoir won't fit with stock air cleaner box
Leaning towards finding one that is rebuildable so I can change the oil (if necessary) to change rebound & compression rates
The spring preload feature is nice but I wonder if I will need to go to a stiffer spring weight for my 200lbs
Found this one on ebay - says it's rebuildable, is adjustable in shock overall length, & has infinite spring preload adjustment (not ramped adjustment)
It's a little bit more than the daywot basic shock tho ($75 vs $45)

May be good as my phase 1 upgrade

Altho this one looks even better, comes in 285mm length, has rebound adjustment ...but is more money
Maybe I should save up until I can afford it ?
Wonder how often I gotta check the air pressure...gonna be a pain to get to the valve - rear bodywork
....maybe just removing the seat storage 'bucket" would allow access to valve
