89 sa50 wont go over 25-30
When Im leaving my house its a good size hill and the bike kinda struggles to make it to 10-15 going up it, I feel like Im riding my mower. then when it planes out it will struggle to get to 25-30, almost feeling like its miss firing. at max speed it does 30ish and its struggling. from 0-15 it does pretty good on flat ground then its *.
I just did the malossi bbk swap
I have the af05e with the malossi bbk, malossi gear set, keli vari with 9 gram weights (54g total), stock reed cage modified, boyesen 740 reeds, stock carb, malossi jet that came with the kit, carb needle on richest setting. stock exhaust cut, gutted completely out then rewelded, and plug is normal looking for 5 minutes of "riding" (has a nice charcoal look).
It just feels like its struggling, maybe gears are too tall for this engine?
I have an oko 24mm and ct mani coming so maybe thatll fix it. i think I really need an exhaust system also.
This thing sounds bad * and idles fine.

try taking out have the rollers as a test thay may tell you your rollers are to hevey ..

I was thinking they might be a bit too heavy also, thank you for the help! Maybe Ill get my rollers today or tomorrow I hope.

if you take out ever other one it will be like running 4.5 rollers its not good to run like of a long time but it well tell you what is going on ...im running 4 gram in my se50

I second what swimmingfree said.
play with the variator weights,
see if you can go with lighter weights to help compensate for the hills.
I had the same problem (I basically work on a hill, so it's uphill to go to work for me!)
after changing out my weights I was able to go uphill better
but now I'm thinking I went a bit too light,
so I'm still tuning...
(I'm particular to when I want the clutch to bite...)
always tuning... hmm...
my ride's never going to get 'finished!'

I tried the weight change, no go.
Im thinking its carb related or exhaust maybe. I used the stock carb with the malossi main jet they gave with the kit. It seems like I hit maybe 4k rpms and it falls on its face. I put a new float needle valve in it and soaked it in chem dip then finished with carb cleaner.
I ordered a trailtech vapor, it would come in handy right now. I wonder what my temps are. If I baby the throttle itll go better but eventually it hits a wall and acts like it doesnt want to go anymore.

the rollers are what make it shift it to higher gears ... so a light rollers keep the motor in first gear longer ...
the 9 your using its like tacking off in 4... i had the same thing your saying is going on till i change the rollers to 4 grams .... i wood do the rollers thing first then the carb ..

9 grams too heavy. The gutted exhaust is hurting performance. What are you running for air box? Need different main jets to try.

I took out 3 of the weights like you recommended swim, no difference, my set of polini weights just came in today.
It revs great on the stand, but doesnt seem like it hits high rpm at all. it hits same rpm as it feels like it does while riding.
The electric start doesnt want to work unless i take the cover off, stretch the belt to where its loose also if that means anything. It runs great tho, minus doesnt want to rev very high, I guess its not high.
Im thinking its either the stock belt, exhaust or carb. I have the stock airbox on it that has been cut out a little with a motorcycle uni filter cut to fit. It runs exactly the same with or with out the filter on or off.
I have a 24 mm OKO with CT intake coming soon, bought it from veedub a couple days ago.
For exhaust what do you think I should do? I could order a performance one and weld it to the stock header pipe, but how effective will it be with the small inlet area of the stock exhaust header. Im trying to keep it somewhat cheap. hahahahaaaa I had to laugh at myself..

I have not done a compression test yet, it is very high tho i can tell. Ill get my tester on it tonight.
Im not sure which set I have, its from redeftperformance. Ill do a gear ratio check later on with the wheel and some chalk. I think they are 16/32 gears.
to modify the stock reed cage i cut the center guides out and opened up the surface area. Ive doen this on just about every 2 stroke with reeds ive ever owned. I own cr250, rt100, 2 rt180, 2 ts185s, & 3 KE100 (which use a rotary valve design) and i take the intake port and rotor and do the same thing. So far none have created this situation.
Im not quite sure what the size is for this malossi performance jet. I should be getting my oko 24mm in the mail soon.
Ill be putting the carb needle back to stock later on also.
the stock exhaust tip is gone theres a hole in its place about the size of a dime. Ill be getting some 1/2 pipe stock today to weld a tip onto it. I think theres just not enough back pressure to keep going in rpms. Im lookin up the leo vince pipe now.
I hope its just too rich.
