Honda Spree Idles high and cuts out on WOT

the scooter starts right up no problem. but it idles high and when i give it more gas it bogs down and dies. everything is stock and the air filter is clean. what should i look for? also the screw on the side of the carb doesnt seem to help or make it worse.. any ideas?

The throttle screw is the screw with the visible spring. Turn it all the way in and start it up then back it out till idle is where you want it (around 1800 rmp's). I had this same problem on my elite fixed it right away.

you have an air leak somewhere causing a lean fuel mixture. Thats why the screws arent doing anything. Find the air leak and set your carb to the manual spec

so i checked and no air leaks. and 1 7/8 turns out didnt do anything... im going to try the "air/fuel" screw but idk how or what setting. any ideas?

I just went through a similar problem.

You said you checked for air leaks - how and where?

I would disassemble the carb and make sure every orifice is open. Trust me on this. It is not obvious if one or more are plugged. The detailed Wikispreedia text and pictures for this are your friend. Take your time and do it right; don't miss anything. Don't assume it is OK.

High idle can be impacted by the two adjustment screws. Recommendations for initial setting vary by year - what year is your Spree? Then follow the instructions exactly to make adjustments from the recommended starting point.

But first make sure your carb is clean.

my spree is an 1984 i see the idle screw but the screw to the left is a air/fuel screw? it looks like its turned in all the way and non adjustable. im going to go look at it again tomorrow when its light out. any recomdations?

well... it was running good before. the oil pump isnt hooked up so im premixing the gas. i cant find any air leaks. but the vaccum part of the petcock thats capped off... where should that go? i have no idea why it was capped off in the first place. it came that way.

sounds like the petcock does not function correctly, and allows fuel to flow freely. If someone has messed with it and didn't replace the screen filter above the petcock in the tank then rust particles have probably plugged the small holes in the carb. Might need to replace petcock with proper type and filter, and give the carb a good soak in a carb dip.

the vaccum part of the petcock is blocked off. where does the vaccum line go? i will try to reconnect the line (where ever it goes) and then buy a new petcock.. but i need to know where the vaccum line goes b4 i can go any further. anyone have any pics of where it goes?
