Re: 86 Spree only goes 26mph
I'm looking for around 35 mph. What are my best options?

Re: 86 Spree only goes 26mph
there is no set path taller tire and pully mod but both will hut the tack off ... but will get you closer the 35 ist hard to do on the cheep .. but if the motor is week it wont help munch .. do a compression test to see how good the motor is ... ..some say with a little griding you can get a 3in under it but ive dont sure .. the best way to get 35 is a motor swap ...

Bill,
How much do you weigh? How are you measuring speed - speedo or GPS? Sprees aren't fast. Mine goes 28-30 indicated/26-28 GPS on flat ground with a 175 lb driver. I believe that is normal for a Spree.

Re: 86 Spree only goes 26mph
I weight 195 lbs. I know I exceed the weight limit by 15 lbs. I have only calculated my speed by the speedo havent checked it with my gps yet. I plan on checking the compression and belt this weekend. So we will see.
Re: 86 Spree only goes 26mph
My '85 Spree goes 30 mpg by the speedo and 28.5 by the GPS.
Oh, and I weighed in yesterday at the Docs at 293 lbs.

35 mph is easy with a BBK and gear set from Taz, Tazland001 here on the forum and chopchop*123 are the same person. Cheaper than an engine swap too.

Bear, what mods have you done to your scooter? If I go with a big bore will I need a new carb and exhaust?
Re: 86 Spree only goes 26mph
No, but they intake and carb is available for extra performance. By '85 Spree is my oldest scooter (bought in 1985) and was my pit bike when I was racing. It will remain as produced for nostalgia sake.billford1223 wrote:Bear, what mods have you done to your scooter? If I go with a big bore will I need a new carb and exhaust?
This is what I raced and one of my 2 stroke engine.

Re: 86 Spree only goes 26mph
I replaced the choke bystarter tonight as i noticed it was broken when i cleaned the carb. I can now get up to 28-30mph and when i hit bumps my engine doesnt stall. I am thinking about putting a new exhaust on at some point. Does anybody have any recommendations?
Thanks

Re: 86 Spree only goes 26mph
There is nothing in exhaust pipery for a Spree. There's not a lot you can do to speed up a Spree. You can't even fit bigger tires. 29mph downhill is about it. Don't bother trying to get more out of it because it's money down the drain. Sell it before you hack it while it's still has value as a pit bike. Then buy something with a CVT transmission like a used Elite or Dio.billford1223 wrote:I am thinking about putting a new exhaust on at some point. Does anybody have any recommendations?

Re: 86 Spree only goes 26mph
Performance exhaust pipes for the Spree are quite rare. Most will pick up something and then make it fit through cutting and re-welding.
I've also heard of people gutting their original pipes but am unsure of actual performance gains on this procedure.
There are Big Bore Kits (BBKs) available for it along with carb upgrades, so you could do that to get to your goal. Keep in mind that you'll need to tune the BBk & upgraded carb to your application.
I'm glad someone mentioned that. I forgot about those too. That's another option besides an engine swap.
