tail-light fades away at start-up

Post by andyf80 »

Hi guys,
Fantastic site...first time poster here.
I have a 1984 spree that among other problems I can not get the tail light to stay lit.
When I turn the key on the ignition to the 'on' position the tail/brake light comes on pretty bright and then quickly fades and won't come back on again nor will the brake lights when I hit the brakes. Oh, also the front blikers will not light up or work.
I wondered if anyone had any ideas for me....would a fuse be suspect for something like this?

Thanks in advance for any help you can give!

Thank you....I will look for that ground today. I don't hear a clicking sound with the blinkers on.....I know the clicker works as I tried it by touching it to the battery.
Thanks

Say.....you guys are great! First I have to find my relay :) how can I go about testing to see if my relay is bad/good?

I have a volt meter...

If I by-pass my relay should by blinkers stay lit....or at least light up?

I had to take apart and clean my turn signal selector to get the lights to work. once you clean all of the contacts put a little dielectric grease in there and you wont have to deal with it for another 22 yearsIt took about 30 minutes total.
