Tire Explanation
Can anyone explain to me the difference with a 2.75-10 tire and a 80/90-10 and a 3.00-10 and a 90/90-10 tire ? How do the tires spec out differently... I'm hoping to put the 80/90-10 and the 90/90-10 on my 87 Honda Aero 50 .. Don't want to make a mistake by getting too big of a tire.
Re: Tire Explanation
I will share the understanding that I have: the size 80/90 indicates the tire width is 80mm and the sidewall is 90% of the width (72mm).
same with 90/90...90mm wide, sidewall is 90% (81mm)
the 2.75 tire is 69.85mm wide, call it 70mm, SO,...the 80/90 is 10 mm wider than 2.75
the 3.00 tire is 76.20mm wide,...so the 90/90 is 14mm wider....
That's where my knowledge stops regarding metric size tires. It looks like the 80/90 would be okay on the rear wheel, but MAY be a tad bit "pinched" on the front wheel (if the wheel is narrower than the rear). If you are talking about an Elite 50, the popular method of increasing tire size is accomplished by using a later model Metro wheel.

Re: Tire Explanation
a 80/90-10 tire is 3.14in wide so pretty much the same as a 3.00x10 tire. a 90/90-10 is 3.54in wide so almost same a 3.50x10 tire. the only difference is the metric tires(80/90-10,90/90-10) are not as tall as the sae tires(3.00x10,3.50x10). as for the pinch effect. the wider metro rim only makes the the pitch of how the thead rolls from edge to edge a bit more flater. for racing thats what you want. if its just for a daily rider the elite rim will be fine.

Re: Tire Explanation
Don't forget, the metro is a tubeless rim where the elite is a tubetype rim.
