Yet Another Flash Filter

Post by Wheelman-111 »

Greetings:

Seeking a quieter Port side. Although the OKO box from VT gave me an extra 2 MPH and change, my only good ear is my left. (The right ear sustained Permanent Noise-Induced Hearing Loss from the PG Long. Lawsuits aplenty pending...).

Anyhow, Racing Planet made me an Offer I Could Not Refuse on this little gem:

Installation and performance results are pending. Surely can't be any louder than the OKO box, and I like the hemispheric box end - which theoretically will do for the intake what the PG does for the out-go.

More to follow.

I bought one of these from Wiguy a few years back, but it never made it onto the scooter (still could I guess). With my constant fear of grit induction into the engine and the $0.25 size "filter" pads that seemed far too open to stop anything smaller than .177 BB I wasn't excited about the filter. Although based on your testing maybe I could rig up more filter foam like the OKO box...

Wiguy did have this to say about the noise:
wiguy05 wrote:It obviously isn't stock airbox quiet, but it is much quieter than an open pod filter. It bumps the noise down from "rediculously obnoxious" to "easily tolerable". lol.

Greetings:

Well, it's REAL Quiet, but predictably, it's Rich. I mean Stupid-Rich replacing the basically Wide-Open OKO box.
So rich that even with rejetting the 26mm OKO carb I don't think it will supply enough air to satisfy Corsa demand at 11K without modification of the box.
I have some ideas, just not sure the Quiet is worth a bit softer performance with a lot of experimentation on jetting.

For a smaller bore and/or carb, the box wouldn't create this limiting factor issue.
It came with sleeves that take the size down to stock carb 27mm bellmouth. I'll consider if it's worth the trouble to re-tune with my limited time available or just sell it.
But I sure like the Quiet...

Greetings:

After careful deliberation, I've decided this Racing Planet filter is more trouble than it's worth for my setup. Offered at $32.50. I've had one request for PayPal info but nothing further. It's on the block for offers.
