1986 Honda Spree - head bolt stripped?

Post by nullset »

Hi,

New owner here!

I have a 1986 Honda Spree I bought at a steal. The body is in great shape. The previous owner had some engine trouble and bought a new cylinder and piston.

Unfortunately, he had trouble installing the cylinder bolts. The bottom left (if you're facing the front of the scooter) bolt just spins instead of grabbing.

I'm not sure what the best fix for this is. Drill and install a helicoil? Drill and tap a slightly larger hole? I'm new to scooters but not to cars in general. Suggestions are appreciated.

Did I mention that my daily driver is a delorean? :)

Can someone tell me what size helicoil I need for this? I'm not familiar with how they're sized, and I don't have a set of calipers handy.

Greetings:

M6 or 6mm diameter bolts. Not sure of the thread count, but M6 All-Thread stock works.

Im bumpin this old thread but i just wanted to clarify that this m6 helicoil set has the correct size tool needed to make the initial thread after drilling. The picture at amazon looks big so i just wanted to make sure. I know the set comes with various pitch threads so i dont worry about that.

Well as long as the more experienced spree owners used the m6 kit to fix bad threads for the cylinder head bolts, im confident.

ive used the m6 on quit a few stripped holes on my spree. You just drill 1/4" and then tap the hole, and insert the coil hardest part is getting the tab at the end off without moving a thread out of place... just take your time and follow the directions.
