Rpm loss with gearing

Post by TikiMan »

went from 14.8 to 12.3 on a zuma and the rpms wont go over 8500. What would cause this? I lowered the weights when i changed the gear but the rpm wont hit near what it use to. Is it just weights or could jetting be needed?

AS sat before gears. 72cc athena racing kit along with crank and bearings. Athena vari with 5 gram weights now at 5/4gram weights. The kit makes crazy power at 9k all the way to 13k before the gearing now it wont hit more than 9k once warm. Should i go to straight 4s?

yup! you might have to even go smaller. if your trying to tune with straight weight rollers, you will be in between weights. 3 grams total weight change is a really big jump trans tunning wise. thats why the make like 4.7g or 4.6g rollers so you can change it by sometimes .4grams total weight.

So pretty much im going to have to keep lowering it until i get the rpm up to close to where it was. Once its back up close to starting rpm ill have to shave weights until its almost perfect.

dont only go by rpm, go by feel too. if it feels better at a lower rpm then go with that.
