Appears he has only just revived the original bore, according to all previous posts. ... :hi:

Greetings:

My own stock '87 Aero initially got to about 37 indicated. (GPS subtracts about 8 percent, or about 3 MPH.) Anything over 35 depends on tuning variables, like non-flat-spotted rollers and belt wear. I doubt the Stock '87 Aero hits 40 on its best day unless you add a variator and maybe a 90/90 rear tire. If you do, and the compression is good, I'd expect about 42 or so. That's really a 20% increase in speed for the price of a belt, rollers, variator and maybe a tire. Not bad.

The 1985 is likely not quite as fast because of its smaller reed block.

OK good. so, my belt is within manual specs, but just barely. its a bit narrow i think, maybe i could run a little faster with a new one. also, can i gain speed by running my rollers dry, instead of greased???

do you run a stock variator or a ruckus unit ??

Greetings:

Used Ruckus vario should be a nice upgrade. Some say no trimming required, others have had to shave around the starter housing to get it to fit. Keli, Malossi, or Polini varios are a good choice too. My personal vario is an off-brand but 97mm on my AF16 Elite. I had the Keli and the Malossi on my Aero when I had that bike. Both are a lot better than Stock.

Greetings:

The posts above are not too clear, so here's my attempt at clarifying:

Probably copying the Italian scooter progenitors, the early Honda scooters ran variator rollers bathed in grease. To keep the grease from spewing all over the belt and case, an O-ringed cover attaches to the variator casting with three tiny bolts. The bolts, the cover and the grease can all go away. Sometime around 1994(?) Honda-san himself realized that performance was better without the added weight and assembly headaches of the greasy rollers, and that roller wear didn't change much. Later models of these scooters were sold with a dry assembly. Most of the aftermarket variators have no threaded holes to run a cover at all.

Just be thorough in cleaning ALL the grease off all the parts. A solvent wash at a minimum, followed by thorough drying of all parts. Check the holes in the rollers, too.

Your temp gun will be worthless if you are running the cooling shrouds and if you are not running the shrouds you are looking for overheated engine turned into junk. Also, by the time you stop and get the gun into action the temp reading will mean nothing.

Use one of these instead.
