Rebuilding a 89 Honda Elite (Canadian version) 50CC

Post by NSDreamer »

Good Morning Everyone,

I'm working on another Honda elite that sadly has not been taken such good care of as mine was. Sad sight to see the ol' girl, but she's still got potential. I'm using this as a chance to learn more about mechanics and hopefully you all wouldn't mind lending me a hand? When I picked her up, most of her was fine, but she had been leaking a clear greenish, I am told, fluid which I would imagine is transmission fluid from what I've heard? I'm completely out in left field here with no idea how to replace transmission fluid, what kind to get, or anything related.

I also have to figure out how to replace the front two signal indicator lights as the plastics were smashed even though the light themselves are still good.

Any advice would be appreciated! I've managed to put in some new air filters, spark plugs, replacing the battery, the tires, the break lines and a few of the plastics. I've also swapped out the old oil and later this weak I'm going to flip her to drain the old gasoline out of her before I have to replace the gas tank too!

Anyone interested in pictures :D She's a sight, but she's getting there!! :coolcruise:

Cheers

Very cool! I like the Elite R graphics. Give it an epic clean and hit the panels with some wax - it'll come up nicely. I've noticed the footwell panels always look chalky and faded (fuel being spilled on them turns the plastic ugly) I've found giving them a spray with cheap silicon based tyre shine and rubbing it into the plastic with your bare hands goes a long way into reviving the colour. :thumbwink:

A heat gun works well on some of the plastic, not the panels but the molded plastic like the cooling shroud and airbox cover etc

the cooling shroud is the black plastic casing that covers the engine barrel and head. I've used silicon spray to rejuvenate the plastic on the shroud too -
