Honda-san changed part numbers for any number of reasons, including different Outsource suppliers. Sometimes just for kicks, it seems.
Different part numbers notwithstanding, the '87 pipe should physically fit all years.
Since the later models seem to perform better, perhaps the later pipe represents an upgrade for an earlier one?

Bear, "Different" as in different flange dimensions or location?

No doubt the header pipe differences are evident on inspection, based on pics I've seen. They started primitive and skinny, and grew fatter through the 4-year run. I'm also confident that the critical locations, flange angles and bracketry are all compatible. By that theory, the best pipe for modded Spree might just be one from an SB50 Elite ES.

Good theory.
The elite e pipe is the best pipe for the spree.
However, the sharp bend in the spree exhaust is there so that it will not bump the frame.
The E or ES exhaust may rub the frame a bit unless it is modded a bit..

Warning, minor deviation in the thread here... I remember a tale of how, while Norton was testing one of their engines (I think it may have been the Commando), their test rig fell over accidentally and it bent the header pipe up near the mounting flange. When they uprighted the test rig, the engine made more power as a result of the pipe 'damage', so they set up their bending jigs to replicate the inadvertedly modded exhaust. I know, different engine etc... but maybe the principle is the same and the sharp bend you mention may very well be not related to the frame design but a deliberate move to extract a little more power? Back to the thread now...
That's definitely an '87 Spree exhaust... The '87 Spree exhaust "body" looks like the Aero 50 exhaust body.
If I remember correctly, the '84-'85 exhaust was the smallest, round type-
The '85-'86 was the "boxy" square looking muffler, and the '87 is the one in the picture above... I remember early in high school, i had an Aero 50 exhaust muffler welded to my Spree's header pipe. It *seemed* like it helped my little Spree have better top-end power...
