No Difference in peformance?????????????
Hi I have put a 65cc BBK on my scoot and a malossi variator. I have cleaned out the carb and jetted up. I have cleaned the air box and filter. Both box and carb are stock as is the exhaust. The exhaust has been decarbonized. Now I have been bedding it in gently for a week and today finally took it for a short run at about half throttle. Now it may just be me but it still only went about 30 down hill and the take off was not much better with the malossi over the standard, I knew I would not get huge gains but expected some. My question is do I need to break it in a lot more or is it something else? I put a 90 jet in which may be a little rich? If the bike is too rich would this affect performace to such a level? The bike on a whole runs well and starts first time but it seems after all the extra work and money I have little to show for it.

Re: No Difference in peformance?????????????
Does the stock exhaust still have the restricter in the exhaust where it bolts to the jug? It looks like a washer that is welded in the exhaust inlet, shrinks the inlet size from around 1" down to about 3/8". If thats still in there you wont get much out of your new BBK
Re: No Difference in peformance?????????????
A BBK will not increase speed unless the bigger motor can rev higher. You need a gear change to take advantage of the BBK's increase in horsepower and torque.

If this is an af05, the pipe would be restricted in a different way.spkrboxx wrote:Does the stock exhaust still have the restricter in the exhaust where it bolts to the jug? Have you taken the variator restrictions out yet?

Greetings:
Did you perform a compression check after you assembled the top end?
If the 30% displacement increase was your ONLY mod along with the 90 jet, the behavior you describe is normal. Better acceleration is hard to gauge by seat-of-pants, but you noticed it "takes off a little better than Stock". As others have remarked, a big increase in top speed is Not to be expected unless you gear up. However the greater torque certainly can handle a bigger-diameter rear tire - 90/90 is almost a sure-fit - and a larger-diameter Ruck or aftermarket variator.. Also, you can probably go up a total of 3-6 grams in the variator using the same spring. Top speeds around 45 with a much faster time-to-speed is to be expected, after break-in of course.

Re: No Difference in peformance?????????????
Hi All,
Its got a malossi multivar variator on it that I have added with a new belt. It is the AF05 so no restricter in the end of the pipe. I have changed the clutch and torque spring aswell but I dont know if this will help or hinder? I only want it to do about 40mph. I presume that the Multivar will be derestricted already?
Cheers
Danny

There should be nothing restrictive in an aftermarket variator.
The 90 jet may be a wee bit rich, not sure if it's enough to slow you down all that much, however. Yes excessive rich mixture will decrease performance, but in an over-cooled and over-oiled "safe" way. Pull the spark plug and see if it's darker than "cardboard". If so, it might be safe to install and try an 88 once break-in is completed.

Re: No Difference in peformance?????????????
The Malossi does not have a back plate and it looks like the derestricted ramp. My exhaust is a two piece one but it does not have anythong restricting the head pipe. It gets to 30mph no probs but then seems like it wants to go quicker but its as if it cant change up another gear?
Will try a lower jet when its bedded in.

The af05 does not have a thong restriction in the head pipe.
And there is no "two piece" pipe, so I have no idea what pipe you have.
Take a pic of your pipe.

Re: No Difference in peformance?????????????
I cant seem to upload any photo's? However when I say 2 piece it is bolted with a gasket where the lower end of the head pipe meets the back box. It looks the same as the other I have seen but I have always wondered why it is in 2 pieces. Could it be from another honda?

Very nice job on pics. I've never seen that pipe set-up on any stock US Honda at all. Someone with pretty good fab skills adapted it. Could it be the reason for underwhelming performance? Maybe.

I have never seen a two piece pipe either.
You need a less restrictive pipe to really let that 65cc rev.
90 jet may be a tad rich...... especially with a tiny stock pipe.
