1989 sb50p Spark Problem

Post by steve99tj »

If someone can point me in the right direction, that would be great. I have a 1989 sb50p eliteE and cannot get spark out of it to save my life. I have a spare for almost every electrical part on this scooter but can't figure it out. It cranks, all the lights work (headlight is dim while cranking and off otherwise). I have interchanged the rectifier, cdi, pulse generator and coil with known good ones, but this hasn't helped. I have checked the grounds and all the wires for continuity and it all seems fine. I am at a loss for what to try next. the only piece i havent replaced is the stator but I figure it is ok since the headlight does come on dim when cranking......any ideas?

Assuming all those parts were good, look at the rotor where it passes by the pulse generator/pickup. I'm wondering if the gap is oversized.

Also could be a cascade failure: did you install all the parts on the scoot at the same time, or one by one? Wondering if your coil and cdi are both dead, for instance.
