Scooters Getting Respect

Post by Wheelman-111 »

Greetings:

Motorcycle Consumer News reviewed the All-New Metropolitan in its current issue. That non-commercial publication pulls no punches, simply because they don't rely on advertising for their revenues. The Met is $400 cheaper than before, thanks to a new Honda-spec factory in Thailand, with its lower-cost labor. Several other Honda models, including the CBR 250 are Thai-built.

The New-From-The-Gound-Up Metro fails to exceed 35 in their testing, despite the curious new 2-valve engine. Now AIR-Cooled, but with EFI, evidently with even less power than before. My brother's Liquid-Cooled 2004 seems to have no trouble getting up to 70 KPH or about 42 MPH. All-new Vespoid styling, and better storage hooks and things. Rims and drum brakes remain, along with >100 MPG mileage. Stay off the Freeway, though.

There's also 2-page spread in Cycle World on the Ruck-Out festival in California. The Grand Prize winner is a Turbocharged Zuma-engined 208cc Ruck-a-Zuma. Lots of group shots of eye candy for Ruck lovers. Not that there's anything wrong with that...

Nice to hear/see scooters getting some coverage in motorcycle mags. :)
Well, I guess there will be a market trying to find older Metros; perhaps ppl won't buy as many with the newer model engines and go back to the water-cooled faster design.

Why would anyone post such a claim in this thread ?
While I have blocked all posts by maddog, occaisionally I will click to see one.
Everytime I look, there is some outrageous claim about how "he" and his "super-sonic" scooter are impressing people to the point of worship.
You may be just as you say, maddog...but I see you as pathetic, always needing to make yourself out to be the baddest scooter-dude ever to twist a throttle.
Bear has been your favorite target, but you don't seem to care who you criticize, accuse, and just plain LIE to.
I'm disgusted that you present yourself as such a person, but it is probably the only way you know how to feel good about yourself.
Of all the claims of YOUR greatness in this past 18 months, NEVER have I seen the first indication that you even own a scooter.
Oh, you do have one friend (fastplastic) that has spoken in your defense, but still there is no reason to believe that you can handle toilet paper with any skill, let alone your 103 mph scooter.
If my ranting has offended you,(or others)so be it....I don't usually get into this realm of forum activity.
Dont bother to reply to this because none of it will be respected.
I apologize to ALL other members for this choice to "state my opinion"

Honda Thailand has been around for years... One of the most sought-after Honda Monkey engines, the "Honda Nice 110" (no longer in prod) was / is THE engine to have.

A close Thai buddy made a few calls for me back in 04, and a couple thousand "golds" later... A brand NEW Honda Nice 110 was sitting at my door.

Honda Thailand has the exact SAME QUALITY standard as Honda Japan...

Many don't know that the late SA50 Elite S and SR are made by Honda Mexico.
There's also Honda Europe (Spain I think)...
