Well, I just got my first moped ever! I used to ride it years ago, but then the people parked it for a while, and I just aquired it 2 days ago. It doesnt run now . So now I am trying to fix it. So far I have gotten a new battery, new spark plug, new gas, new oil, and new belt. But I think the belt size is wrong. It seems too loose. Anyone know a part number? The old belt stretched and so now I cant match it up to well. My email address is mattyboy4u@hotmail.com, and I would appreciate any help I can get. The starter doesnt work, but even if I can get the kick starter working for now I will be happy. Thanks!
Haha, yah I kinda feel like an idiot now Anyways, its a 1986 Honda Spree, its got 1400 miles on it, and I think I have narrowed it down to the electric starter. The kick starter is a little messed up, but I think it was because it was loose. I am putting it back together tomarrow with a new belt, and going to see if it turns the engine over at all tomarrow, but if not, I think I may have a little problem. Anyone ever had a moped that was sheltered for a couple of years? Had any problems getting it to start? Let me know. Thanks!
Ok well I got some carb cleaner today, I am going to get the carb off and clean it, and I also got an air compressor to blow everything dry, and then well see if it starts. I gotta wait until tomarrow though, because I still dont know the right belt size, anyone know what it might be or a part number? Anyways, thanks again for the help guys, Im gonna try it out and Ill let ya know.
Hey thanks for the part number, I will be getting that tomarrow, I started cleaning out the carb, and will be putting it back together tomarrow to see if I can start it up, I have to get some more hoses though, the air line hose going from the carb to the fuel tank has a hole in it, so I have to replace that also. Anyways, wish me luck and well see what happens tomarrow . Thanks again guys, and Ill let ya know if I run into more problems.
Well I'm glad to hear that you think that all it will pretty much need, I am going to finish it off tomarrow after work and then hopefully it will crank over. The starter I think is out though, when I had first replaced fluids, battery, and air filter, I went to go start it up the first time, I hit the start button and nothing happened. But the horn, lights and blinker all work, so I know its not the battery.
Well I got off work later today than expected, but I got new hoses on, cleaned out the carborator really well, and cleaned everything up a bit. I still have yet to put on the new belt, and put the kick starter back together, I guess that will be tomarrow. I hope I got the right belt size. Honda wont tell me what it is, because the closest Honda store that sells moped parts is 2 hours away from me. I guess this will either work or Ill be driving Anyways, Ill let ya know what happens.
Well guys I feel a little retarded . I should have written a diagram down, I got most everything done, and I just got the new belt on, the only thing I dont remember is how the front part of the spool (right next to the starter spinion) goes on. Anyone able to let me know? Ive tried several different ways, but I cannot seem to remember. Let me know! Thanks!
