94 SA 50 added v8 pipe now have torque issues

Post by sc94elite »

hello i'm new to the forum i have a 94 sa 50 af16 stock carb 100 main jet and have a 50mm bbk i was running stock exhaust. i got a V8 pipe in the mail today and installed it and now i have no low end torque the top end is much faster. but low end is much slower i played with the weights in the variator but it didn't change at all. with the stock pipe it had great low end it would do a wheelie but now hardly pulls in comparison to before. any ideas would be greaty appreciated

Greetings:

Which V8 Pipe?
It's common for a bigger exhaust to waste low-RPM power. Assuming it's not some other malfunction, all you can do is adjust things so that the engine is approaching its powerband before the clutch starts to bite. Stronger triple springs or an aftermarket adjustable clutch is the solution. Also observe that the variator isn't shifting prematurely as the clutch engages. Lighten up the variator load a little (3 grams total at a time) to delay its migration.

thanks wheelman it's the typhoon v8 daywot on ebay. it's just amazing how the bike goes from torquey wheelie wonder to no balls until it hits around 35 then it's fast all the way to WOT clocked 49mph on gps that's about 8mph faster than the stock pipe it's just slower getting to 35

the pipe

Nice scoot! If it was running fine before the V8 pipe was installed, it should run fine after except the jetting will be off. I'm guessing it won't be anything other than the jetting. Try changing the main jet to a 90 or 92. There can be a huge performance difference just from a 90 to a 92, so a 100 jet could be way off base and totally flood your low speed performance. 8 gram weights would have more punch with a BBK than 7 grams. The extra torque of the BBK can handle the heavier weights. The lighter weights will wind up, but not go anywhere.
