HELP!!! SPREE DIED!!!
I was riding home from work cruising about 25 to 30 then all of a sudden I loss power. I was slowing down, had no power even with handle at WOT throttle, finally when I stopped, the spree died and won't start anymore. Can someone recommend me a good shop around south california Whittier or give me so good info on what to do? Problem is I won't be able to tear it apart till Sunday.....
Thanks
Thanks

Re: HELP!!! SPREE DIED!!!
Did you hit any big bumps right before it died? First check your compression as Motormike said, if its good you, you might have popped a wire off of the coil or the air hose came off. I had a coil wire pop off a while back, I hit the the railroad tracks at full speed because the driver behind me thought that his front bumper looked nice really close to my tail light. Good thing I had my tool bag on the rack to get the plastics off and get it fixed. I also have had my carb come loose as well. just a thought, if you don't have a gauge, try popping in a new sparkplug just to see what happens. And maybe turn it over with the plug hooked up touching the head to see if it has spark. Here's to hoping its a simple fix.

No but to be honest I think i seized it by riding like 4 miles straight going 30 do you think that can be the problem?

Re: HELP!!! SPREE DIED!!!
4 miles strait shouldn't seize anything if everything is working right carb and intake tract and if the engine is getting oil properly. My spree will go WOT all day long and then some. Is other oil in your oil tank, is the oil pump actually pumping oil? The screen in the oil tank could be clogged up. The compression test is almost crucial now, if you had a crank seal go bad then nothing you do is gonna make it run. Any other diagnosis might be futile unless its something like a bad spark plug or the like. But where you already had a seize, it very likely there is a larger issue at hand.

Re: HELP!!! SPREE DIED!!!
Don't worry you have nothing to apologize for, you don't know if you don't ask. You can replace the crank seals there are two, and the crank bearings. They are the seals that seal the crank shaft to the crank case. You have to split the cases and pull the engine apart but its a common thing that happens from time to time on 2 strokes especially old ones. I haven't had the pleasure of having to do that job yet, to my spree but I'm sure I'll have to sometime. The shop manual has instructions on how its done, if you dont have the manual for your scooter, now would be a great time to head to the documents section of the board and get it. It will help you tons when trouble shooting problems.

Re: HELP!!! SPREE DIED!!!
Thank you for understanding I'm gonna take it apart tomorrow and do a compression check, I'm also planning on replacing drive belt, bystarter, petcock, spark plug, boot, tires, air filter, and clean the carb hopefully I can get it to start!!!patthesoundguy wrote:Don't worry you have nothing to apologize for, you don't know if you don't ask. Re: HELP!!! SPREE DIED!!!
Dont go replacing parts willy nilly. Start with what you have to identify the problem. If you are not getting fuel start from the tank and work your way down through the system. Take a nice bright flash light and look in the tank at the screen, is it clogged with junk. Take the fuel line from the carb and point it at a small container. Next take the vacum line from the petcock and suck very very very gently, do you have fuel pour out of the fuel line. Now if you get fuel at that point putthe vacum line back and fuel line back. Pour a little 2stroke mix 35to1 in the cylinder put the plug back and see if it starts up. If it starts you have some compression, spark and its not seized up all that bad. At this point open the float bowl drain srew and see if any fuel comes out of the carb.

Re: HELP!!! SPREE DIED!!!
If a bunch of fuel come out of the carb its getting fuel. Now pull the carb and clean the heck out of it. The only parts I would think of replacing at this point would be a sparkplug. If you have spark and there are no signs of major damage to the coil wire and plug boot its probably fine. And if the petcock works properly why replace it. As soon as you start replacing things you throw potential problems into the mix, unless you know for certain the particular part is the problem and there is no way to trouble shoot around it with out a new one.

Re: HELP!!! SPREE DIED!!!
How do I check for spark and if the cylinder moves then can I rule out that its not seized?
