Did the speedometer test you recommended today. The top speed was 30mph (GPS), and that was indicating 36mph (spedometer), and usually I can only go about 31mph (speedometer).

So looks like my cruising speed is about 27-28 is all I can get out of her right now.

Okay guys, here is my oil plug, I had to sacrifice a 7mm socket to the cause, but it worked well until I buy a correct length bolt.

Didnt get a compression test done yesterday, however, the bike feels completely different with the plug in and the oil pump removed. Night and day, no faster top speed, but considerable midrange difference, still a dog, but made a difference.

I am wondering if the oil plug had not seated with the crankcase or was somehow letting air into the crankcase and that was causing the oil issue? I don't know, but I will hopefully do a compression test on saturday morning.

Does anyone have the socket size handy for the plug? Is it just standard? I am keeping my tools in a few buckets in the storage on my back porch, and the scooter is in the lot, knowing helps me not have to go back and forth a zillion times.

Thanks guys.

Greetings:

If the o-ring on the pump wasn't sealing, it's absolutely an issue.
Spark plug socket is "standard" 13/16 I think.

Make sure you used some type of silicone to seal that plug. If not your going to have a airleak. By the looks of your bike, you have the 87 elite s non restricted model. If your only seeing around 30mph. Sounds like that exhaust port might be clogged up with carbon. Or the airfilter is clogged up. Also if you haven't replaced the belt and rollers, i would do that too. That model stock does 40mph no problem.

Where is the cheapest place to get a head gasket? Looks like from the link, the head gasket must be replaced to clean the carbon on the exhaust port.

If it is super cheap, I can do that, otherwise the cheap BBK from VT might be a good option to keep from doing redundant work.

I will be looking at rollers this weekend hopefully and get some pics on here for you guys to see.

Greetings:

The head gasket sells for $4.11 as shown here.
It may be possible to inspect and even clean the exhaust port simply by removing the exhaust pipe. If you raise the piston to top dead center and avoid direct contact with the piston, you can remove a lot of carbon from without. Using a plastic or wooden scraper would afford further protection against scratching the piston.

The exhaust pipe itself may be what's most clogged. Heat or chemical treatment - or a nice new LeoVince #4447 would improve performance significantly if so. A NEW filter element would be a Very Good Idea at this point too. The open-cell foam has a way of becoming Closed-Cell as it tries to congeal back into the primordial ooze from whence it came.

Good luck!

Looks like no compression test today boys,

Went to O'reilly Auto parts, theirs was lent to a mechanic
Went to Autozone, they dont do loaners on compression testers because one got lent out and never came back so they never replaced it
Went to NAPA, guys was a * and said, I don't do loaners. I said, you don't? If I wait in line for that guy "another employee", does he do them? - Store policy, no loaners.

Looks like I have to call Oreilly each day to see if it has returned, that is about as far as I can go while scooting.

Will look at air filter tomorrow, and I will try to figure out the carbon inspection.
Will be cleaning the carb at the same time.

If that's the original motor , it should have the unrestricted US2 stamped plate.

It has been raining quite a bit the past two days. But today, either way, i will be calling O'reilly to see if their compression tester is back in, pulling and cleaning the carb, and looking at the air filter for obstruction.

Looks like the chemical cleaning of my exhaust would be best for what I am equipped to handle.

I want to inspect the rollers and get a few pictures to you guys, because that is what i think our culprit is, but like you guys said, wont know until we inspect a few things and get that compression test completed.

Can a moderator close this thread? I opened my outer cover to discover that my drive face was welded to the crank. That eliminates the possibility of many of these suggestions.

New engine being picked up tomorrow. I will be be building the new engine with the BBK from Red Eft and a ruckus variator from Wheelman, and I will post everything on a build thread.

Thanks
