Petcock Test

Post by bowman2 »

Can anyone tell me how to check to see if the petcock is working. I think I need a new one but am not sure.

If I disconnect the fuel line and the vac line from the carb the gas just pours out of the fuel line. Likewise if I connect them to the carb the gas just keeps coming out of the carb drain port.

I would also like to know how the bike would react with the fuel just fowing in like that? Mine breaks down and sometimes spits and stops running. Is that an indication of a bad petcock?

Just pull both lines from the petcock..if it leaks replace it. Mark your lines so you dont get em mixed up.

if gas is flowing w/out scooter running, either replace or it might be stuck. Shouldnt need to mark lines, upper connection on petcock is fuel, and fuel inlet is the one on the carb.

You have two unrelated problems.

Your petcock is stuck open. Try soaking it in gas and/or blasting it with WD40. Read up in tech docs on this.

If gas is pouring out the carb overflow, your carb float valve needs to be replaced or your float is stuck. Can't believe it runs like this.

Petcock

Post by bowman2 »

The gas doesn't pour out of the overflow. If I open the bowl drain screw it keeps flowing. If I disconnect both the gas line and the vac line from the carb the gas continues flowing out of the gas line.

I have cleaned the petcock with carb cleaner the best I could but the gas still keeps flowing.

Does anyone know where I can get a petcock?
