Greetings:

1. Cable housing worn and/or adjusted with too much slack. Replace or adjust.

2. At High RPM, the reeds don't do too much. When they're not closing correctly, it makes it hard to start and gutless in LOW RPM operation.

Looks like it may be the cause, there is a good 1/8 of travel left if in fact it is supposed to go completely flush. I am thinking of washer shimming the cable head within the slide if possible.

Wheelman or Baka have thoughts?

The throttle cable adjustment is up by the throttle grip. Slide back the rubber cover that's bulging

I have adjusted at the throttle cable, I have backed the thread channel all the way out, and locked down the nut, did not make that much of a difference.

The next step will be to pull the slide from the carb, and see if perhaps the bezel that the cable bulb fits into is worn, making the bulb fit higher in the slide than intended, if that is the case, I can get a new slide, or see if there is a chance to use a tiny eyelet or washer equivalent to shim.

Can someone confirm that the slide is supposed to go ALL THE WAY up and flush mount or even recess into the carb housing? I will take a picture later, but Maybe i can find some pictures on the forum, nothing returned when looking at carb slide, or throttle cable slide.

Also, would not threading the throttle cap ALL the way down do the same by introducing a gap or distance in how far up the slide can go? Not a permanent solution, but may be a good test. If it works, I could find a more permanent solution.

Greetings:

If the cable has a zillion miles, it may simply be worn beyond usefulness. Yes, the slide should completely clear the throat, and unscrewing the cap should be a good way to confirm it. I'm not sure how a shim washer under the cable could be installed inder the slide/cable end, and I'm really frightened of having something come loose and pulled into the engine. Don't ax me why. Just get a new cable, they're not that expensive and maybe even a good used one can be found.

Wheelman- thanks

You are right about the washer, that probably is a big risk!.

I will try the thread cap to see if I can make a difference, if it does, one other method, since there is no other alternative than replacement, would be to:

1) remove cap
2) remove cable form assembly
3) using my channel locks (big ones), smash the end of the throttle cable bulb our of round, making the shape from a "O" to an "0" , the increased diameter on the polarized points would be great enough to sit lower in the underneath slide recess.

Greetings:

You can safely shim up the cable housing end in its throttle cap socket with a split-ring. About 1/8" thickness should do it, at least until your cable breaks... Only brake cables have a bigger potential life risk. Get a new one, I'm beggin' ya. Somebody send him a cable. If I have one, I'll give it to you, no cost, shipping included. Sheesh.

Or you can unscrew the end that goes into the throttle grip. That means you have to take it apart and get the cable end off the throttle grip . Unscrew the grip housing some off thr cable end.

Unthreading the throttle cap did make a difference, I could not do a visual as I was at work, but I believe we are on to something.
Achieved 37 wot . 40 downhill.

Has a little better takeoff too. I will need to really look into this via visual inspection to see if it has made a major or minor difference in the slide clearance.

If your running the split cable make sure the oil pump cable adjust is not to tight. That will restrict throttling

Baka,

I looked into the oil cable, I believe we are good there. I have the oil pump zip tied wide open, and the cable rests behind the air filter, with plenty of room left at WOT.

I have not been able to visually inspect the slide with the throttle cap NOT screwed down completely, so I am imagining that there is a bit of slide room still left preventing WOT.

THere is a huge difference in the way the bike behaves now, I was able to go from mixture screw almost all the way out, to only 2 full turns out, and the bike idles much better, I didnt feel that it was that bad before, but now it is more like a sewing machine.

So I am thinking I will go into the throttle handle assembly and tighten things up this weekend.
