1985 Honda Aero 50 exhaust and air filter effect on jetting

Post by spiro »

Hi All. New to the forum. thanks for having me!

so I have a 1985 Honda aero 50 (NB50) and i love it. so much fun. while the weather was bad we decided to get it going a little fast and after reading some stuff on here i did several things
1. new sliders (9grams)
2. new clutch spring
3. leo-Vince sp3 exhaust (cerekoted red to match the scooter)
4. new filter. Uni red filter with a 28mm attachment.
5. upgraded rear shock
6. high energy ignition coil

most of these are pretty straightforward and from what i can tell but i am hitting a small problem with the jetting. A lot of people recommend going to the #85 jet in order to take advantage of the new exhaust but what i am wondering is what i should jet to with the exhaust and airfilter upgrade. i was thinking at least in the 90's and if i am going that high how do i get there. the jet used in the aero is very small and i havent been able to find any other size than the stock 80. i could have the hole drilled out and put the whole thing on the dyno but thats going to be so $$. i am open to ideas. thanks so much for your time

Greetings:

I've run the stock jet drilled to the mm size you need without issues, but a drilled jet won't behave exactly like a Factory one. Honda makes 99101-187-0880 jet that fits your PA carb. It's the 88 size (see the last four digits in the Part Number.) Order one for about $5 from Honda-san. If you have the stock 50cc bore, my guess would be 88 should work. If you've swapped to 65cc, 90-94 is probably closer. Beware of running Lean, particularly downhill.

Thanks to both of you. I ordered a 88 jet off that Honda website and i PM'd Taz. He's going to sell me a 100 jet he says will fit. im going to run the 88. see if its lean. if its lean ill run the 100. if its rich then ill drill out the 88 to approx a 93~96 and see what happens then.

thanks for your support. Ill take some photos tonight so you can see what I'm working with. I'm so excited.

Looking at buying a NB50 1985. Running. Any thoughts? What are the main differences between that and my 84 Spree? Easier to find aftermarket parts? :)

Says 85' is hard to modify because of the different intake system. Can go bbk but have to leave stock carb/intake according to that.

Greetings:

Check the Tech section. You can build or perhaps buy the adaptor that all the cool kids are using to convert the very similar Spree and SB50 2-bolt intakes to OKO-CT Chrome compatibility.
