Spree Exhaust Question
Hi,
So I've got an 85 Spree... If I drill out the rear baffle in the exhaust, should I need to change the jetting in the carb?
Thanks
Nick

I started riding my uncle's 87 Spree at the drag strip when I was 8...
It's easier to stop caring three years ago than it is to fix it in present time.

Re: Spree Exhaust Question
Greetings
If you drill out the rear baffle, the only thing you need to change is your mind.
Y'see, Honda-san's Infinite and Infallible wisdom led to the Spree's fine balance of pressure waves and flow velocities. Rude drilling of a hole in his fine work might gain the attention of the Faire Maidens, but won't improve your actual performance much. Might even make it slower. For all the drama and noise - and the wrath of neighbors - it ain't worth it.

Re: Spree Exhaust Question
Ah, okay. There was a member on here a while ago that sold his Sprees, but he drilled out the rear baffles, upgraded to an open-element air filter, and jetted up to a 90-95 main, and he was hitting around 40 with no other mods. thought that if I could find a cheap muffler it might be worth a shot.Wheelman-111 wrote:Greetings

Yeah, 40 with "no other mods" seems unlikely. I've never owned a Spree, but members I trust say they're happy to bust 35 with a LOT of other mods.

Here's the YouTube video. He had to audioswap the video due to a song, but before that you could hear the engine, that I can vouch for.Wheelman-111 wrote:Greetings:

The guy could have bought a variated engine-swapped Spree and not known about it. Or he could have lied about it.

Re: Spree Exhaust Question
Maybe so, but I did drive my Uncle's 87 spree that was totally bone stock, and that hit 35 with me on it. Granted that was when I was ten, so maybe I need to lose a little weight and give it another go... I gotta dig that one outta storage.graphite9 wrote:No way this guy did 40 on a stock spree with those mods. I ran every bolt on for a spree, gears, carb, and big bore kit. It never hit 40. I don't think a sprees stock gears will even allow 40. I have owned about 7 sprees, and none of them did over 27-29 on flat ground in stock form. Despite what people say, they are incredibly slow.87spree70superbee wrote:Here's the YouTube video. Re: Spree Exhaust Question
My spree has an ax24 belt the first mlm pipe, ported intake, a little intake porting on the cylinder and 86/87 reeds, and I ran it with a 95 jet and no filter or air box and wouldn't do 40, I say drilling the stock pipe and 95 jet and doing 40mph is a little far fetched. There would be no forum if that was the case, just a page on the web telling everyone to up jet, drill pipe, buy 5$ air filter and go 40mph. It ain't that simple or we all would have done it by now. BBK/gears/pipe/carb and intake might do 40mph, ask Taz what his top speed with the addition of the mlm pipe is

Re: Spree Exhaust Question
Hi guys, I'm new here and hopefully will not get flamed, but I've had two Sprees since I was 10 (25 years ago). One black 1985 and one red 1986. The red one is normal and will run about 30, but the black one will run about 30 for a couple miles of WOT and then something will happen. The engine will start to scream and she will accelerate to about 43 after that. It will do it everytime. It certainly isn't normal and if someone else told me this I wouldn't believe them but I know it's absolutely true. I've never had the covers off of either one, so I don't know why it does it.

Greetings:
Heat-related vacuum leak? That'd give the engine a power boost. Not sure about near-50% speed increase though. Check the spark plug after one of those Fountain of Youth episodes. It'll be pretty white if this is what's happening.
