87 elite backroad racer

Post by Adventurecrow »

So a few weeks ago I ended up buying my first 87 elite, with a mallossi bbk and matching head, other than that she is stock.

I have been commuting and using it for rallying backroads around Oregon. I'm shooting for a reliable, yet powerful little elite. With a little ratrod/adventurous spirit added. Future mods include 24mm carb, and a leovince sp3.

As soon as I bought it I upgraded the tires to a set of Perelli sl26's, 3.00x10, and swapped the damaged turn signals out for some flush mounts.

Here are a few pics of her, she has a new seat on the way as the pink really isn't my style.

The Leo will add some more to it Shave 0.50 from the head 2K center spring Get a variator and tune it. and The rear tire should have been a 90/90/10 (would have helped)

Do you run a +2K spring? Any trouble with sheared rear pulley?

I have 8.4g rollers in there now and a ruckus variator.

I was going to go with the 2k spring, and the clutch which I have but I can't seem to get the nut off the clutch, any quick thoughts on that?

Impact, you can't beat air tools. If you don't have em invest, they will pay for themselves.

I keep having the nut on the front pulley come off while driving. I have ranked it down multiple times, then just had the thought of the washer, is there suppose to be a washer between the nut and the starting gear? It kinda goes oO()() nut, washer, big gear, variator. Should I take that washer out? I was nearly late for work due to this thing again today, had to push her a mile to make it to work on time.

So today as I was driving home from work, on a curvy backroad, one of the small bolts holding my plastics on ended up breaking the plastic and hence forth the left plastic coming off while driving, as soon as it happened I slammed the brakes and went back for it, by the time I had gotten it was all over, a Nissan pathfinder found its way over it :( breakage, so I ripped the other side off threw it in the ditch and rode home, guess ill be going a little bit lighter now and more air to cool the engine. Oh well ya win some ya lose some, positive thing though, scoot still runs ;)
