May be your first go around but you'll be okay if you continue asking questions, researching your bike and maintaining organization. Excellent work so far.

Crackin' away at cleaning today. I got ahead of myself and took apart the starter motor, not sure how to put it back together! wire brush bit to nock the funk and rust off, but still looking funky. Frustrating day! Good news is i have plenty of time to clean the engine until i have enough money to order the parts I need. :?: I don't think I want to fool with a bunch of upgrades right now. I just want to get her on the road, then I can fool around with her guts this winter when I get back from the circus.

Cleaned out the variator. Found a tiny wear spot on this one roller.

Put a bolt where the spark plug goes while i'm cleaning so i don't damage the plug. taped over some other orifices that i figured should not get dirt in them. I painted the alternator and head vintage rust to give it the classic weathered look.

It would be worth the extra $50 or so to have it trued by a professional before installing.

Then PORT PORT PORT ( just b/c you said you have no mechanical experience, that means make holes bigger lol )

you have already going to do the hardest part ( cracking the case) now you need to get out a drimel and make the holes for the intake on the engine block bigger, and the hole where your exhaust hooks up bigger. do some reading on the issue but its alot easier to figure out when its in front of you

here is a thread from when i first did it, pics arnt the best but eveyone is super helpful

There's an old build thread where someone swapped an Aero 80 motor into an Aero 50 (I think, on second thought it could have been a spree). Either way reading it should give you a good idea of what work would be required.

Yeah man there are quite a few. The 80cc looks like it's in ruff shape, but i'm hoping I can swap some parts over, mainly the crankshaft and possibly the variator/rollers. Thanks again for all your input.

I doubt the cranks are interchangeable. If all you have of the 80cc is what's in the pic then it may be easier and cheaper to keep the 50. Although I've been dreaming about an nb50 with a nh80 swap for a while now. Can't say I've ever seen one...

I found a few different build threads for it and similar. Make me an offer and maybe I can help your wildest dreams come true! I'm pretty content with my 50cc engine, we've been spending a lot of time together.

I've got a 1500mi nh80 swap in my garage. Just waiting to finish up my 65cc aero first. I'm sure you'll be happy with the af05e. Don't waste your time and just get a bbk while your refreshing your bottom end. Even with a stock carb and exhaust, the difference is night and day.

does that aero80 motor look like it has a ct mani on it to anyone eles?

" Don't waste your time and just get a bbk while your refreshing your bottom end. Even with a stock carb and exhaust, the difference is night and day"

:imo: you will have a "night and day" upgrade if you change the head, or the exhaust, or the carb.

basically where do you want to spend $180 first? lol

its only $5-$10 in bits, or grinders, or sharpeners, to port things open as well.

at the risk of sounding repetitive " PORT PORT PORT"

Trued by a professional?

I'm not sure if that's the right part anymore. I posted a WTB ad and mousewheels said i might not even have an 85. so i'm back to stupid where i started... :|

mousewheels said "'85 would have no kick start, but I don't recall they left an open hole there.

Check the intake to crankcase connection. If it's 2 bolt it's an '85." and "1985 had a different p/n crank than 1986-87, and 83/84 Aero's have a different stroke."

I'm seeing a 4 bolt intake :)

BTW - the head is on 90 degrees from what it should be. Fins should point sideways, not front/back
Edit: Head is ok as is, my own head must have been sideways
