Spree won't start

Post by dakotabs »

I purchased a 87 nq50 Spree of craigslist and have only been able to get it running for about 30 seconds. I have read the posts about cleaning the carb and the float pin seat and have had minimal luck. I purchased a new aftermarket carb off ebay and I cant get it to run at all. the new carb has another orifice besides the fuel which I think is for oil injection so I blocked that off because my intake has the oil injection orifice. should I switch carbs again? I have spark and 110 psi compression. the electric start also wont work It will click but wont turn with a good battery.
thanks for the help.

Good move blocking that. Although, the original carb if cleaned properly should out perform it.

Ok, I checked and cleaned the reed valve and it seems ok, I may order one in the future. After putting on the old carb and and trying to start, I found that I now have no spark. I'm going to clean the points and check the coil.

Greetings:

Finding points on your Spree may prove challenging. Suggest you do some reading.

I bought that same carb, out of curiosity. It runs pretty decent and i just put on a new petcock from the same company and my spree runs really smooth and hits 30-33 no problem. It took me awhile to get the carb tuned just perfect, bout a day. Not bad parts for the price and quality is pretty good so far

If the magnet flywheel was never pulled, not likely. If it was, check it.

I got it running. when I put on the new carb there wasn't a rubber o ring under the cap assembly so I must have had a air leak. I also put in a new spark plug. Now its time to buy the bbk.
