Exhaust drill out

Post by emac86 »

I have an '85 Spree. It is an Iowa model, indicated by a sticker and the VIN. It didn't look like it has been modified, but I took off the muffler to look for the legendary restrictor, but didn't see one. There are some carbon deposits on the pipe, but nothing that looks like a restrictor.

My top speed is about 26 MPH, I would like to get ~30. Would drilling a few holes in the pipe pre-muffler make a big difference in speed? in sound?

I can tell you that my pipe has a hole in it about midway and that it gave me more air and my spree went faster. I'm actually going to buy one from noiseguy to see if i can get up in the low to mid 30's.

Mine does 28-30 on flats at this moment depending on wind.
