Does my 1998 elite SR need oil in the transmission? I mean do i need to add oil somewhere else that in the oil tank under my seat?

Just checked the manual but it doesn't show how to fill it in. Can i use the same oil as the one i put in the oul tank? It's been 2 years that i have this scooter and i have never add oil at this place, but only in the oil tank...

If you look at the manual it tells you what kind of oil to put in the gear box. Its not the same as the oil you put in the oil tank.

Heya, I use 75-90 gear lube by royal purple. It doesn't take much at all. Drain out all that old junk and let it drain for a while before you fill it back up. Royal purple gear lube can be found at oreilys. I don't know where you are in st Charles but there's a lot of them out there. If you need help I can help out sometime this week while I'm in town.

Pretty sure it's 10w-40 oil needed.

Just use regular motor oil in the trans case.

10w30 is what I use.

Oh crazy Ive always ran 75-90 with no problems, I just assumed it was like the other bikes. Do you think it can cause any issues? I havent seen anything ever go wrong with mine but maybe its just good luck.

Im going to swap out with some GN4 10w 30 later tonight and see if theres any difference. Might have to do it a couple times. I know my yamaha used 85-140. 10w 30 is a lot cheaper.

Manual says 10w40 but you can also listen to traffic. He definitely knows his stuff.

Im pretty sure you will be fine with gear oil.

It just is overkill. some people would argue that the thicker oil would cause more resistance.....but Im not really sure ive ever noticed a difference.

Well you saw how fast my 49cc is, my 72s are killer faster ha. I thought maybe it may blow out a seal or something. the 75-90 works great so far but Im definitely going to change out one of the zx50s and see if theres any difference. Thanks!
Its funny because I was going to swap gears in my 49cc tonight and Im glad this came up. Learn something new everyday!
