Greetings:

Now I know you're just torturing us. How hard could it be to scrape some crud off the trans cover and type it in your last post? :)

If you plan mods the code will help us help you.

I like that Chad's forum name is a bad play on numbers.
When we were in Japanese class, our rhyme went:
itchy knees, some cheese, gum wrapper. after that it didn't work as well. but 1 to six is almost enough.
Welcome.

:D Thanks for your acknowledgement.
I always try to give a visual when I present new information. For example, when I teach someone what "punch in the face" means... :P

Sorry about the delay. I know you guys have been checking this thread every 4 minutes for the past two days in the hopes that I've posted the engine code. I apologize for making you wait. Excuses won't help, but I've been staying quite busy.

Also, the reason I haven't posted the engine code is when I checked the trans case, all I saw was "OIL 0.09L". I didn't realize that the engine code was stamped onto the trans case. I just went out there to brush off the dust and found what I, and you, was looking for!

BUT, you're gonna have to wait a little longer because I'm having so much fun torturing you. muah ah ah ahhhhhh!!!

Good eye.
Is there anything special about the engine?
It works its way up to 55-60kph. I had it over 60-65kph going downhill the other day. Good thing the police didn't see it. I guess a speeding ticket is like $700!!!

Also, it's smoking a bit when running AND the exhaust is kinda loud. I'd prefer to have a quieter exhaust because I feel like a * putting through neighborhoods or through farming roads where people are outside farming or just enjoying the beautiful scenery and environment we're in. In Toledo, my '86 VW Jetta 2.0 ABA had a nice growling exhaust and could show up most of the V6s it came across. I sold it before I left and now have only 1: a 1984 Rabbit convertible converted to diesel. Slow and low. That is the tempo. ;)

Other than the fact that it goooooes when in proper tune and we never got them here in the states, not really. That is a true dio whereas we got the af16 in the states, a few guys have af18's that were imported by a person but not by honda. our af16 specs somewhere around 3.5-4 hp and that engine specs 6-6.5 hp. Most of the hop up parts you read about on this forum were actually designed for your engine but they will fit our af16's so we use them. I am told there is a rpm limiter on your scooter. But 55km/h sounds low, about 35mph. When you twist full throttle off the line, does it want to wheelie?

I used to have an old vw diesel, but then a white tail thought it was stronger (the vw was able to limp away but that white tail was totaled). Now I just have the big diesels, tall and loud (that low stuff is cool in the city but just doesn't cut it on the farm  ).

Greetings:

It appears that one big difference betweek the AF16 ane your 18 is the case cutout for the boost port. AF16s require extensive carving to match cylinders designed for the AF18. Presumably the AF18 case is already cut to the correct size - over twice as wide and twice as deep as on the AF16. See the base gaskets in the Flash IV writeups in Performance Tech to compare.

I followed another thread that suggested some years of the AF18 used odd-sized crank seal diameters - but that you needed the serial number and a GuideBook to tell which ones you've got.

Well, I wouldn't say it "goooooes", but it's a bit peppy. It's easy to take-off from stop lights quicker than cars, but because my speed is limited to 30 kph and the speed limits on the main roads are between 40 and 50, cars end up catching up shortly anyhow. And, being Japan, the roads aren't exactly wide. So, I actually just sit back and wait for most of the traffic to get ahead of me before I take off from a light. Then, I stick to the tail of the last car.

Also, I added my first mod shortly after I bought it a couple weeks ago: a cup holder below the seat, between where your calves are during riding. It's tough to drink with a full face-protecting helmet. ...I can't be losing any teeth if I go down! They're the money maker! ...and food chewer.

WHAT? You're in Yapan and asking a forum with mostly Continental Americans about your DIO? WOW. I've got an older DIO which came over on a Banana boat. Great bike.

Hey guys, it's been over 3 years since my first post on this forum and I'm back with a new(er) Dio. I ended up giving the scooter to my boss because he was strapped for cash and sold his car and I didn't want haul it with me when I moved. Then, I found out that he didn't use it. Then, he gave it to someone else without asking me if I'd like it back... Well, I *did* give it to him, I guess... lol

Well, I eventually bought another Dio, a little newer than my previous one, off an Australian guy who was heading back home. Now, I'm having problems with it. Yee-haw! It was having some trouble starting, but it's never failed to start...until today. It's got a flat tire and I was about to hobble across town on side streets to the Honda bike shop that I'm familiar with to have them replace both tires, but it's not starting. The muffler smelled of gas and the spark plug had some oil on it. I thought I'd come check to see if I could find a breakdown of the carburetor. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Chad

check for spark... check the air filter. If both seem cool I would first check compression. At least see if blows your finger off of the spark plug hole while cranking. If that's good then tear into the carb. That's not hard, check the service manual. 2 bolts on the forward side of the carb. Pull the fuel line off and crimp or stick a philips screw driver into it. Then take carb to bench and take the 2 screws out that hold the bowl on and clean all ports with a poking device of suitable size.

you CANT check compression with you finger .Your finger will blow off at 30psi a scooter needs at least 90psi to run .So putting your finger on the hole and cranking it is a waste of time .

telling someone to do this is VERY bad advise

Hey guys, thanks for getting back at me. I had the bike shop check it out. And it turned out to be... a bees' nest in the muffler!!! They charged me about $10 to clean it out.

I'll be around Japan for another year or so. So, if you guys would like to get your hands on any original parts, let me know and I'll see what I can do.

Kind Regards,

Chad
